Maybe it was the bus driver who allegedly had the beer cans in her trash can... I remember a post about that not too long ago where someone's kids reported the driver for possible drinking and driving and transportation just sort of poo-poo'ed the issue with an 'internal investigation' - in other words, they did nothing.

There was a Reader letter on the Bay Net about this the other week. I have spent the last 20 minutes looking for it on there. It seems like they either deleted it or it may be that it is just impossible to find anything on that site once it leaves the main page.

I am curious to see if this in one in the same. The letter on the Bay Net was referring to my sons school bus. The buses normal driver picked the kids up for school yesterday morning but a different driver dropped them off yesterday and picked them up this morning. I am starting to wonder if it is a coincidence or if this was the driver that got locked up.

That makes me wonder if the driver wasn't above the legal limit... is a bus driver 'allowed' to go up to the legal limit, or do they have to be completely clean? The police must have smelled alcohol or had another reason to continue the investigation when they got to the bus
Eh, I guess it's like my drugging and driving thread - maybe he (or she) had a beer before they got on the bus, but that one beer is like drinking water to them. They smelled of alcohol, but weren't 'under the influence' because they are so tolerant of the beer perhaps?

You must have a 000.00 BAC to pass with a CDL. So this driver was at 000.00 when tested
He agreed to the test so there would be no question to his innocence. The police continued with a test so that it would be a closed case with no room for speculation or questions as to why he was not tested.

:yeahthat: Kids say a lot of dumb stuff, and too many people are too quick to believe them. I'm not saying that we shouldn't investigate allegations like this - of course we need to be certain that a driver is sober. But I'm not going to automatically believe a bunch of little rugrats in a case like this. All it takes is one of them to make something up, and the rest go along with it because they want to feel important, or they think it's funny.
Kids have no concept of what accusations like that can do to an adult.

I've had my CDL since it was just a chauffers license....I'm also doing research for a paper....This is for commercial(bus, truck) and non-commercial vehicles(personal car)
Commercial Driver's License Program (CDL/CDLIS) - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (http://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/registration-licensing/cdl/cdl.htm)
The FHWA has also established 0.04% as the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level at or above which a CMV driver is deemed to be driving under the influence of alcohol and subject to the disqualification sanctions in the Act. States maintain a BAC level between .08% and .10% for non-CMV drivers.

So these were false allegations against the driver by the kids... hmm. Are the police investigating the situation (i.e. find the kids that called the driver in and question them for possible disicpline)?

You're right hand sanitizer does smell pretty bad. It beats running and washing your hands every 2 min because someone touched you though.
I think they should always look into stuff like this. SOME kids lie and make things up but it seems like older kids would make something like that up, not so much ES aged kids. How old were the kids that blew the whistle? If it is true I hope they don't just ignore it. I am losing all faith in the school system anyway. They police parents and tell us what to do and not to do with OUR kids. Then they drag their feet when something is brought to their attention that they didn't do properly.
I guess I still have animosity towards the school after an incident on my daughters bus.

I'm betting that there's nothing my parents could have done differently to make me into the next Michael Jordan.
I'll make sure to let my brother, who was born with Cerebral Palsy, know that what happened after he was born is the reason that he will never walk.
We are not all created equally. There are certain characteristics that we are born with that cannot be changed.

On Wednesday, Nov. 4, a call went out to authorities shortly before 12:30 p.m., reporting a St. Mary’s County School bus had a driver that smelled of alcohol. Students that were on the bus phoned their parents and told the parents that their driver smelled like alcohol resulting in a call to police.
Local police initiated a search for the bus in question. St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Deputies located and stopped the bus as it was making a stop at Great Mills High School loaded with children.
In reply to Mama Mia08...
I would think it would be safe to assume that they were High School students since the bus was making a stop at Great Mills High School. Makes me think a student or two (or three) had a problem with the bus driver and wanted to make trouble for him. Kudos to the police for following procedure to the "T" so there was no question. :yay:

so the kids at the bus stop(not on the bus yet) called? so was this a prank or did some kids who may have already been on the bus start the allegation/rumor?

So were these middle school aged students then?
I'm  - so he was taking the kids HOME from school? I was thinking they were heading to school... he dropped off a group of kids, then they called thinking that he smelled like alcohol?
maybe the whole thing was just an unfortunate mistake. I suppose if it were my kids on the bus and they thought that the bus driver was drinking, I would want them to call and have the driver investigated. I do feel sorry for the driver - but the welfare of the kids is the most important thing.

I'm surprised anyone puts their kids on a school bus.
You raise an interesting point  Trust me, I go back and forth with myself on that issue... I have one riding the bus and one that will be riding it next year. I have had to sit down with both of them and discuss 'bus safety' and how important it is to sit still, not clown around, to not have stuff out like pencils that could poke someone hard when the bus hits a bump and everyone gets jostled around.
It was a big adjustment for my oldest - he comes home with bruises all of the time from getting 'thrown around' in the seat. He sits next to the window and gets thrown up against that quite a bit. They hit a pothole in the road and go airborne.
It stinks that putting seatbelts on a bus would be such a huge problem - not just because of the cost and the upgrades that would be necessary to do it, but because it would require a couple of aides on the bus to make sure the kids were putting them on and using them right - I can imagine that a lot of kids would have problems pulling the belts out and then buckling them, and they'd have to do it everytime someone got on the bus. Of course it would be worth it to keep the kids safer... but still a huge PITA.
I guess no amount of safety modifications can keep the kids safe when their bus driver gets on the bus drunk or flat out can't drive. I know the majority of bus drivers ARE good drivers and are concerned about the kids - but I have seen more school buses around here that are flying down 235, switching lanes and cutting people off, etc.
Some people don't have any choice but to put their kids on the bus because they have to be at work and can't get them to school any other way. I could drive my oldest to school (and I do some days) but he wants to ride the bus -and there are days that I think just like you and think I must be crazy to put him on there.
