Why would schools be closed?????

St Georges Island always floods when it rains a lot. What else is new???? Folks who live on the island should already have plans in place for situations they know will happen.

Weatherbug is popping up Alerts left and right today. First flood warnings and now wind advisories.

There is no evidence that entitlement programs lead to dependence on the government.

Raven, why should we bail out people who choose to live in a flood zone? If they're too stupid to help themselves, we should just let them drown.

I think the thread title is supposed to be something like:
Are schools open as emergency shelters.

Now warnings as this storm is blowing the water up the bay slowing the run off down the bay. Guess who gets flooded?
I sure as hell would not expect sympathy, but my flood insurance would be paid up and I would be asking where to go to ride the storm out, right about now too.
Head for the hills! Hills halfway house, for a beer that is....

Are schools closed, not is. St. George Island always floods. If the winds had been coming out of the south it would have flooded long ago.

RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia's governor declared a state of emergency Wednesday as unrelenting rain from the remnants of a tropical storm soaked the state, while officials in North Carolina braced for another day of heavy rain.

Gov. Tim Kaine's declaration mobilizes state agencies to prepare for the threat of flooding over a wide swath of Virginia.

The National Weather Service forecasts 3 to 8 inches through Friday morning for parts of Virginia as the remains of Tropical Storm Ida, which was once a hurricane, crawl across the state. Old Dominion University in Norfolk canceled classes Thursday

Maryland Governor may follow soon!

This this area has been a problem for years. But no one knows how to fix it.
But the are still building in that area like the run off from the new huge storage buildings they just built.

Dr. Martirano has a system in place with the school bus drivers who are also watermen. They are lining up all the Boston Whalers they can find to get the kids from the mainroad to their bus stops. :yay:

I'm going to fight the gas lines to get premium gas for my handy, dandy Stihl

It's not funny but like the tide, tropical storms and huricanses are a fact of life on the east coast. With them comes rain and wind - lots of both.
Nothing that is happening is a suprise, it's not new.

Deal with it.

BTW, feel free to ##### when the power goes out as falling trees take down power lines (that will take days if not weeks to repair).

Flat Iron has the usual trouble spots near the Knotts place. Drayden Road bottom of Booths Hill, creek is over the road. In Great Mills the water is just below the bridge. I have not verified these just got a couple of phone calls.

Not according to what I have been told the creek over the road is the problem, no way around that. One way in one way out.

High tide was @ 1044 so it should be on it's way out now.(FWIW) Next high around 2300, that one may be more problematic.

Don't be down on all bus drivers because of the actions of one or two. The kids will be fine coming home on the bus.

Hope the new bridge on Chancellors doesn't get flooded out.

It has gathered an inch or two on top, becuase the "working" road surface is that much lower than the drains. But it certainly wont be flooded from below. Heck, the roadways 15 feet higher than the old one, and each of the two pathways for water is maybe 3 to 4 times larger than the old pipe.

btw raven your signature sucks... which explains the need for a grammer lesson and the concerns that big brother should be doing more to take care of the fools that build in flood plains.

I know several families that live on "the island", have for a long time and they know the risk. While dealing with it is a #####, they do so without asking for the government to help because they have made the decision that living there is worth the price of the occaisional flood.

Something people living in coastal areas have done for centuries.
