View Full Version : Does anyone think that Bratz dolls look like cynical sluts?

Maybe it's because I have two daughters, but Bratz look like ill-tempered divas. It's not the makeup, it's the look in their eyes and the pout on their lips. Like they're ready to throw a tantrum or get into a catfight. They're almost anti-Barbies.

They look like half the girls comin out of Great Mills High School to me.

I haven't seen this yet, but the Bratz dolls look a little ridiculous to me. Their heads are enormous compared to their bodies...

Well, their clothes are way too skimpy for girls' dolls. But they at least have pleasant expressions on some of their faces. The Bratz look angry and cynical to me.

As a parent, I feel that these dolls (Flavas, Bratz, etc.), which are marketed to primary school girls, are too scantily dressed with way too much makeup. I wouldn't purchase them for my daughters.

I have three little girls and zero Bratz dolls in my house. I intend to keep it that way.

It's a marketing ploy. Studies have shown that large eyes an oversized head trigger a nurturing response in humans. You'll note that babies have big heads and eyes.
I agree though, these dolls are too disproportionate. And if you want a nurturing response, why slap all the make up on them?

I didn't know that, but you're right about the make up.

No, Bratz dolls are leading children to believe that it's ok to have an enormous head and eyes, dress like sluts and wear too much make up.

Yeah say you tell your child she or he is being a brat...well maybe they may think its ok to be called a "brat" because that is what a popular doll is called. So whatever they are doing at the time when you call them a brat...they may look back at that action and think it was ok to act like that.
It was just a thought....

No, seriously, it's the responsiblity of the parent to see that their child doesn't dress like a stripper, act like a brat, or wear more make up than Tammy Faye Bakker (or whatever her new last name is).

I agree 100% with you on that one. I girl shouldnt be aloud to wear make-up until they are at least 15 years old. My father wouldnt let me....
As for parents letting a child walk out looking like a stripper...there is a serious problem with that matter.

The point is a doll will not make a child do anything or act a certain way. It can be detrimental to their self-image, but as long as the parent provides the kid with a reality check, the damn doll shouldn't make them be a brat or a hootchie. My kids would never have them (if I had kids) just because they don't convey the message I want to reach my daughter. The message they convey is that it's cool to be half naked, and painted like a geisha all the time....

These are the same kids that will be easy prey for Abercrombie and Fitch's soft core porn disquised as a catalog. "Hey, it's cool to dress in barely anything and pose for the camera with your naked boyfriend!" It seems to me that pushing the envelope of taste and propriety is the name of the game in advertising. I hope I can keep my little ones away fromt he horrid wave of stuff targeted for the next generation, but I have no illusions. :duh:
