I wasn't even putting this in ladies.

I tried a new recipe last night. I never cooked a lace cookie recipre, but think this is that type. They spread too thin. Real good and perfect "crisp" but ugly.
Can I reduce the margarine for less melt?

margarine? yuck theres your problem. Always bake with butter..no matter what it says. :killingme

Really though, putting the dough in the fridge for a few really helps the spreading.

Just so I am understanding what your saying: When you turn the heat up your cookie melts? :killingme

Are they the karo lace ones? They're supposed to be thin! They're good, we make them every year.

They have corn syrup, but you add chopped gum candy with the oatmeal last. I used creaming by hand instead of an electric mixer.

That's a different one than we make. Ours just has coconut. They're so good!! Crispy around the outside and chewy towards the middle. :yum:

I've never made these, but I am wondering if what you 'thought' was margarine (if you didn't use butter) was really a 'spread'. That would certainly cause them to spread too thin.

I know everyone says always use real butter, but in today's economy who can afford to if you do a ton of baking this time of year. I always use land of lakes stick 'margarine' and everything tastes as yummy as it should.

Happy baking!!!

I was at Walmart the other day and their brand of butter was 1.98, got a pack to try it, I couldn't tell the difference between that and the other stuff especially when using it for baking.

May be ok for baking but we tried Walmart brand butter, extremely salty.... I read somewhere before that the molecular make up of margarine was one molecule off from being plastic, have you ever noticed that flies won't touch it and it doesn't rot or stink if it sits out? Been using butter or WD-40( I can't believe it's not butter spray) for years now after reading that article.

If you get the unsalted it works well. If I use the salted from walmart I just omit the salt. GOTTA use butter in baking.
