Honestly, I don't know why anyone goes to Outback, Applebee's or CIP when we have so many excellent non-chain restaurants around here to choose from.
That's all - just wanted to lodge my complaint.

Must not forget Reluctant Navigator, which has the best fried chicken I've ever eaten. Yes, that would be better (and it feels like sacrilege to say this) than Chaptico Market. And they have an excellent Sunday brunch as well.

yuck Outback! We used to go there often and the last 3 or 4 times the food has just been terrible. It was so bad the other night that I literally could not eat the food. (someone must have switched the spices or something because it just tasted like cayenne pepper/fire) Someone had given us a gift card so I didnt complain at the time, but did send them an email a few days later and they sent me gift certificates to go back... but I really just dont want to. Like you said I can make a better steak at home.

Well yeah, so can I...especially with venison, but sometimes I want to go and sit at a table, enjoy a beer and conversation with my wife while someone waits on us.
So, I ask again, besides Outback...who has a good steak in this area?
Would maybe hit Jaspers if I'm driving through, but won't go that far just for a steak.

I don't care for the steak anywhere around here, I'll make my own. If I'm in range, there are a few places in Annapolis and DC that I'd go, but my favorite is the Aberdeen Barn in Charlotsville VA. Best prime rib ever..

NOT the place in Tall Timbers..
NOT the Lexington..
Lately the best steak I've had is one bought at BJs, about 1.5 inch thick DelMonico. It was PERFECT!
Second to that: Ruby Tuesdays Cajun Ribeye..
.
I'm always on the look out for a PERFECT Prime Rib, and yet to find one.. but locally Outback has the best Prime Rib

Last time I bought Nick's $4.99 filet it was chewy and unpleasant and hardly filet-like at all. Also it was $4.99 whole. When I asked them to trim and cut it for me, suddenly the price went to $7.99/lb. Which is still good for real filet, but not for crap filet like that.

Well, can you share your top three, Vraila?
DB McMillan's (formerly Petruzzi's) is by far one of the worst restaurants I have been to in this county. Don't go there! The Rebarcheck's are the worst restaurant owners ever!

I have been to DB McMillian's numerous times and it's been fantastic every single time. The only trouble I have is trying to figure out what I'm going to order because everything I've had has been
Sounds like you have a personal bone to pick with the owners. :jet:

You can get a good steak at Lenny's and Ruddy Duck. I'm sure there are other places and I'll post if I think of them.
Adam's Rib in PrFred has a good steak.
Hubby and I still need to make it down to the Ruddy Duck. I'm sure he'll get a steak, he usually does when we go out. Is there a particular one that's really good there?
I shop there ALL the time and I have to say that I think the quality of their meat has fallen off a bit. I have NEVER had to pay for them to trim a whole filet or a whole strip, etc. Last NY strips were tough and not much flavor, I was really disappointed.
Same here. We used to buy NY strips at Nicks but we were disappointed twice with how tough they were. Now we buy the filet when it's on sale and freeze it. I have one of their pork roasts in the crockpot right now.

DB's is fab, as is Lenny's. I eat at both of them all the time and have never had a bad meal or bad service.

The only steak I ever eat is a ribeye, and the one at the Duck is outstanding. And their Cowboy Salad, with sliced steak and bleu cheese, is my favoritest salad in the world.

Thanks, looks like we'll have somewhere else to try around here. I keep meaning to get down to the Ruddy Duck but never think of it when it comes time for us to go out. I'll admit, I'm pretty picky when it comes to steak. If someone can cook it well done and it's still tender, I'm a happy girl. And I love a good salad.

Who has the best steak in town? That is about the only thing I like Outback for and I enjoy getting my face around one of their 24oz porterhouse steaks. However, if I can find a non-chain steak that is as good or better, I'm all for it.

rr i didn't want to go to jail for walking out of a place without paying for my food since they wouldn't take it off the bill as that is all that was gotten. As I have said before I haven't stepped foot back in that place and never will as long as I am alive and have a choice of where we go to eat.

Honestly, I don't know why anyone goes to Outback, Applebee's or CIP when we have so many excellent non-chain restaurants around here to choose from.
That's all - just wanted to lodge my complaint.
I used to have this knee-jerk aversion to EVER going to a chain restaurant. Something in me just felt like their food came out of a bag or something.
But I can see a few reasons why I've gone. They almost always depend on WHO GOES WITH ME.
One is, I usually know what they have on the menu, and how much it will cost - and if I don't, I can find it online.
I can frequently get a coupon, gift card or some kind of discount there.
They usually have enough variety at the chains to accommodate odd food needs - children, people with allergies, parents with extremely fussy preferences. For example, I like CD Cafe, but I know a number of people I'd never take there - my mom for example would never eat their food. My dad doesn't like too many exotic foods, anything spicy or ethnic.
Family food and portions - more restaurant chains are providing senior discounts, senior portions and several carry nutritional information and Weight Watcher's sections. I even like that some of them carry smaller versions of the same entrees.
And in a lot of cases, they might even beat the prices of local restaurants.
I like the places that have been named here, and if I was going by myself or with a friend with tastes like my own, I'd do that all the time. That is almost never the case.

I read that the new owner (or chef?) at Catamaran's was a contestant on Hell's Kitchen? Is that right?

Yes that's correct -- Robert Hess, although rumor has it that he's currently on vacation in Florida with his wife. Whoever he left in charge of the kitchen is good!

Here r some pics.
My favorites are:
Jasper's - wonderful food every time, no matter what we order.
Silver Skewers - OMG the chicken for lunch is incredible- light, filling... love this place- even for take out salad chicken, rice, vegetabls, bread all for about $12!
Szechuan Gardens best local place for chinese- hands down!

After living here for almost 13 years, we finally had dinner there. It was a really nice place. Husband had steak, I had pulled pork BBQ sandwich, oldest had a half rack of ribs and youngest had mac-n-cheese. We all enjoyed our meals.

Best steak in town is El Dorado, the spanish (not mexican) restaurant on Charles Street in LaPlata. You can get normal "mexican" type fare such as fajitas, tacos etc... but the spanish food is a charcoal broiled steak with steamed vegetables, rice, and beans. The Sangria is to die for! Best I have ever had. Prices are extremely reasonable.
