has declared Friday, Jan 8 "purple Friday" and encouraging the state to allow relaxed dress so they can wear their Ravens gear to work.
I wonder if one doesn't like the Ravens, if they can wear gear for the team they do support. I can see this turning into a #### storm. I'm sure OMalley has more important decisions to make, like what other taxes he can impose on the citizens of MD.

I like the Ravens but I know a lot of people that don't and I'd never expect them to wear purple to work to support a team they don't like. He really should concentrate on more important issues. I'll wear my purple on game day.
Not sure if this is where you saw it, but I found an article on the baynet so I'll post it in case someone is interested.

apparently making the playoffs is a major thing. :bigwhoop:
maybe they should wait for a super bowl win to do that.

People will complain about anything.... I bet it took him all of 10 mins to do this... I'm not even a ravens fan, but I don't care if the people I work with come in with there purple gear on to show some home state support...

First thing he's done that I agree with!

No, it has to be the Ravens, or the relaxed dress code does not apply.
Furthermore, anyone caught wearing a Tom Brady jersey must be shot on sight.

As much as I disagree with MOM for political ideology, I have no problem with this. Like it or not, he's the Governor of MD. MD's football team is the Ravens (and I do know that many people in MD, myself included, are Redskins fans). He should promote pride in MD's team. I'd also expect him to do something similar if U or MD teams are in the playoffs.

So wearing a purple jersey with the number 4 and the name Favre on the back would be okay. :yahoo:

I dont find this offensive, but I wonder what would be said if he allowed those who wished --,to have a small Confederate flag on their desk on Confederate Memorial day.
Apples and Oranges? Yeah. But not so far afield that the point loses effect.

understand your point, but maryland was union so you'd need to argue that in another state. :neener:

What about those Marylanders that had descendants in the 2nd Maryland Infantry, 1st Maryland Cavalry Battalion, 2nd Maryland Cavalry, 1st Maryland Artillery, 2nd Maryland Artillery, 3rd Maryland Artillery, and the 4th Maryland Artillery all of which served for the Confederacy? The state didn't secede but the loyalty was split between the north and south.

Only because it was forced to be.
More than likely it would have been Confederate. Washington wouldn't have that though as they'd be in between two Confederate states.

The Confederate memorial in Scotland, Maryland is also the only memorial the United States has ever dedicated to it's enemy.
