View Full Version : My cat is injured and lost in Dameron

This morning around 11:20am, I was leaving home and got about 1/4 mile away when I heard three or four bangs under my car,and then looked in my rearview to see our cat,Brownie, falling out from under my car. I hit the brakes and she ran, dragging her legs behind her, into the woods. She is very sweet and tame, and I know for sure she would not run away. She goes out all the time and always comes home. I have spent the day searching for her with a friend and also my daughter but we have not found her. I fear she is in the woods, severely injured and dying slowly. This may sound stupid but I'm desperate...if any of you live near the Rod N Reel gas station in Dameron, she went missing just a bit north of there..please keep your eyes out for her and tell your family members as well. I am heading back out later with my husband to look more this evening...but we've searched all day with no sign of her. She is a very large-almost small dog sized cat, long fluffy tortie coloring, which is a mix of different shades of brown. That is her face as my av.

Should be pretty simple. If you see a torti in that area with injured back legs, that's her cat. It's unlikely there will be more than one of them.

Poor thing. She will not come out..she is hiding because she is injured. You need to find her before dark. Icit has a bloodhound...maybe she can help. Good luck.

I'm down that way. I'll be on the lookout to see your kitty. If I do, I'll certainly let you know.
I did see a pretty white/grey/tortoise mixed cat on Sunday, but he/she was quite healthy and mobile at that point.

Didn't mean anything mean, just thought it would help other posters if there were pics. Sorry Seaturtle, I hope you find your kitty. :huggy:

I wish I had some that were any good-all of them are as a kitten,or mega close ups my youngest took. I don't really think it is going to work out-she should be home, this happened so close to our house, that to me for her to be gone so long, she has to have been hurt very badly. What throws me is that I saw her get up and run away. My husband says she got a "burst of adrenaline" and could still have been massively injured...maybe..I don't know.

I agree about (some) mean people on here. I know what it is like to have a lost cat that you love. My situation turned out positive after a couple (very long) days. Hope the same for you in Dameron! Good luck finding the cat!

I honestly thought she was wanting squished kitty pics. It never occured to me that if anyone who read this thread found an injured cat they wouldn't put two and two together without a picture...

Good luck finding your kitty. Wish I could help but my bloodhounds are trained to find lost and missing people only. They are proofed over top of wild animals and other animals so they should not follow their scent. If we break that one time its all over. :( there is a woman in MD that trains dogs to track pets.

BROWNIE IS HOME!!!! I have been out all morning, picked up my kids, and came home to find her on one of the beds....no doors open,no windows, either. I don't know how it happened! But she's home...I crammed a crown on her head and made her my avatar!

Do you think the cat under your car was a stray or a neighbor's cat?
Either way, glad she's ok!

No...I am 100% sure it was mine. Brownie is about the size of a medium dog..very large, and she has a very distinctive face. It was absolutely her. She looked right at me as she got up off the road,no doubt about it. I would never have let my family think she was dead if I had any doubts...I am just so extremely happy to have her back.

How are her legs?
She used to jump over the baby gate in our hallway and I noticed she hesitated and would not/could not jump it. She has a very slight limp. She has an appointment tomorrow morning at All Kinds to be sure she is ok.

I hope she doesn't remember you ran over her. She may come in your bed tonight and suck away your breath. :jet:

I am so glad Brownie is ok. I think the movie that mentioned a cat sucking away your breath was Cat's Eye with Drew Barrymore. The little troll in that movie freaked me out when I was little.

I am so glad she came home.Don't blame yourself for her being up under your car. Cats go up there to stay warm. Maybe now you should keep her inside at all times. There are so many dangerous things that happen to cats outside. You and your cat would feel so much better if she was inside. The cat because she would be so nice and warm and you because you wouldn't have to stress about something happening again. If you are concerned about how she would be staying in all the time, they adjust very fast. I had a feral that I rescued, which had never been in a house at all. He adjusted so well. They would much rather be inside all warm and cozy then outside. Again I am so glad that she came home. She was probably just as glad to get home.

I would agree with some of that, but if *they* would much rather be in than out,why do they go out? Our cat stays right by the door at all times, and after she runs in and eats she's back out. Keeping her in is near impossible,as she will simply wait until someone is coming in or out. I don't think for one minute she would rather be in....I feel like it's about quality of life, and I was definitely upset when she was gone and I'm pretty sure taking a Honda to the leg was not good for her either, but if going out is what she loves to do so much, than eventually we might all have to pay the price...and I let her go. Only now I'm much more cautious about looking for her before moving my vehicle.

I'm glad to hear she returned. How is the leg from the accident?
