Hubby and I are going Grand Cayman Island in April for a short getaway. Anyone been there? Looking for ideas of must-do's while there and for any other useful info about the island.

Pretty sure we'll do a Stingray City Catamaran excursion (should be fun to swim with/feed the stingrays and hopefully not get attacked, lol). And we'll probably do the Atlantis Submarine excursion as well. Any other places to visit while there?

Haven't been on a vacation in way too long and I can't take much more of this winter!

Go to the Seven Mile Beach...lay out, swim, drink something with a little umbrella in it, eat some good food, lay out and swim again...enjoy your day :yay:

I went on a cruise years ago and we ported there, that's about all we were able to do  BUT I'd do it again in a heartbeat, even if just for 5 minutes, ahhhhhh

That's a definite plan! It's hard for me to enjoy the umbrella drinks here when all I see is snow outside.

Where are you staying?? I suggest Hemmingways which is party of Grand Caymen Beach Resorts, it's pricey but GOOD! Also, the turtle farm was fun! Rum Point is at the other end of the island but it was fun also. I went in November for a week and it was awesome! Also, the pirates buffet which they had on only Friday when we were there was awesome, they did it at the Marriot but i suggest making reservations for that. :howdy:

That place looks really amazing but I'm sure I'd break my neck....or at least a leg. :killingme Rollerblades are as close as I get to skating.

Thanks for all the ideas! Is shopping really expensive there? I usually try to get a small canvas painting by a local artist from wherever I travel to - nothing crazy, just a little painting to remind me of the beautiful scenery. Did you notice a lot of artwork by any chance?

We're staying at the Ritz, it was booked for a group of us through a company hubby does business with.

No problem! To be honest, everything is expensive there! We ordered from Papa Johns; large pizza, breadsticks and a 2 liter and it was $42!!! No, didn't see much artwork. It is a great place to visit though and awesome to be able to say you went there.

:yikes: $42? But I have to ask you this.....who vacations on a tropical island and orders Papa Johns? :killingme That's funny, how was it? Taste a lot different than here?

The first time we went to Cozumel we got in reallllly late and didn't know what to do/where to go and were starving so we ordered a pizza (we rented a house so it's not like there was anything 'on-site'). When the guy came and told us it was $40 for two pizzas I said, "Uhhh yeah we don't pay $40 for pizza, anywhere". He gave us one of the pizza's for $15 and we called it a night

Haha, I went to Cancun a couple years ago with two of my girlfriends...one of which I will NOT be going to Mexico with again. We get there and she starts freaking out because, get this...she doesn't like Mexican food :lmao: Now, we stayed at an all-inclusive place so the drinks/food were included BUT every day after me and the one girl ate we had to go to Pizza Hut or Subway or wherever so the other one could/would eat. We decided to eat together one night at some restaurant we have at home (I forget what it was, Ruby Tuesday or something like that) and when we go to place our order the one friend that won't eat Mexican food says, "I'm not hungry. I'll eat later, I have pizza back in the room". WHAT! Her sister completely went off on her telling her how she was sick of hearing her complain and the only reason we were at that stupid restaurant was for her and blah blah blah. Yeah, she stayed in the room that night while we went out on the party bus. We had a blast!

Hell was pretty neat. Its just a few buildings, but when you walk down this path. the temp goes up about 15 deg as you enter a volcanic rock area.

Nope, but since he had to go for work, 1/2 of the food and hotel were paid for, but we dropped about $1500 of our own $ but it was worth it!!! Plus, you know how we drink/party, so it was lots of 4, hah! :buddies:

Now that makes sense. Sounds like we better plan to spend a decent amount while there.

Same with us. Our flight, hotel, 2 dinners and all breakfasts are paid for. And they're also paying for 2 excursions. Not a bad deal at all. But I can see where our bill is gonna get ugly - how much are drinks? That is when it really pays to have all inclusive, at least for hubby and I!

It's all what you make it. I looked at it like this, i won't come back here to stay again unless it's majority paid for but you gotta spend if you got the chance to go!!!

Completely agree. We don't get to go away a lot due to hubby's crazy work schedule. So when we do get away, we take advantage of everything the place has to offer. And when you have most of the trip paid for, that leaves extra money to spend on fun. :yahoo:

I will tell you...we went to the liquor store and bought liquor from there. During the day we would just fill up our big cup we bought and drink that, which saved us lots of $ in the long run! When we went out at night we would just drink at the restaurant/bar. We met another couple at the pool and they suggested it also.
