The HDTV industry will soon be marketing 3D TV sets. ESPN is talking about broadcasting soccer games and DirecTV is looking at adding 3D programming to it's schedule, in late spring or early summer.

Whatcha think? Are you ready for this one?

I've been waiting to upgrade my TV because I knew this was coming in the future.

My Sony LED is very much 3D looking. At first it was very unusual and "different." Now that I'm used to it, it doesn't really phase me.

Admit it, you like the carboard glasses with the different colored lenses though, don't you?

You have to wear 3D glasses to realise the effect on your HDTV - they mentioned too. I don't know about that one. Oh yeah, they will cost you some extra dough, as they will not arrive with your new 3D TV.......

Whatcha think? Are you ready for this one?I wouldn't be too excited. From what I've read, you'll still need those funky glasses to experience 3D. Once they can do true 3D, then you're talking.

I'm guessing it has to do with the way it is set up to stretch images to fit the screen. Mine has a setting where it stretches the image more towards the sides and less in the center. It does give it a 3D feel. I tried it that way and didn't like it. I have it set to stretch the image evenly.

With my plasma HDTV, there seems to be a pretty good sense of depth perception, meaning you can distinctly recognize objects in the background, that are farther away from the camera. They are still clear.

Isn't that one of the virtues of 3D television?

With my plasma HDTV, there seems to be a pretty good sense of depth perception, meaning you can distinctly recognize objects in the background, that are farther away from the camera. They are still clear. That's not "depth perception". Depth perception has to do with being able to judge relative distances visually. What you are describing is visual acuity.

Excuse my verbiage; that is what I meant. You can "see" - distinguish - that items or people are father away in the background, and not up close to the camera.
I don't notice it on all the HDTV channels, but it seems evident on the premium ones.

It has finally arrived! 3D HDTV. Panasonic and Samsung have models available for purchase at Best Buy(not locally but in NYC I think I read.)

$2400.00 to $2500.00 is quite a bit less than I thought they would be asking for them.

The Panasonic 50" model reviewed by C-Net is supposed to be an outstanding HDTV in it's own right.

But I don't know about having to wear those glasses in order to see the effects of 3D picture content! Plus if another household member wants to view the content, you're going to have to spend another $150.00 for them to see it. A family of 4? That's some serious dough.

Nintendo should put out a free upgrade for the Wii to make it 3D-capable...

oh...and make some 3D games for it.

I am not interested in 3D, I am very satisfied with the HD 52" flat screen. More gimmicks for those who got money to waist for 3D. Heck what is next, a TV that works to your voice commands would be nice.

And, how far off into the future do you think that will be? It's not impossible.

You say to your TV: "View channel 206." Presto!

3D glasses: One for each set | Tech News on ZDNet (http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9595_22-405158.html?tag=wrapper;col1)

The good news about the 3D TVs coming out this spring and summer is that they'll come packed with two pairs of 3D lenses. The bad news? Those plastic glasses work only with the brand of TV with which they're shipped.

That means that if you buy a Panasonic 3D TV, you can't use the accompanying lenses with your neighbor's Sony 3D TV, should you want to get together to watch the World Cup in 3D this summer.

That's because each TV brand has a sensor that picks up a signal from the corresponding brand of glasses.

I figured an industry standard would have been established. Like 3D TV is 3D TV. Not so.

I guess it's not the case from manufacturer to manufacturer.

hahaha....Adult movies in 3D BOOOOOM

The new Sony thing isn't a whole new system, I think it's more or less controllers with a camera that are interoperable with your PS3....same idea as the Wii pretty much....

I figured Sony would just let Nintendo have that market.......Our Wii has been turned on probably 5 times since we got it, it's collected dust for probably 1.5-2 years...
