I don't like him, but this time I have to agree with him..
Stern and Foxx go to war over Sidibe remarks - MSN Movies News (http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=491588>1=28101)
Oprah telling this morbidly Obese woman.. "You're going to have a great career" in Hollywood and movies?? REALLY?? You doing this ginormous balck woman favors by telling her how great she is? Do her a favor, tell her to lose some weight before she DIES!!
This isn't William Hung with a crappy voice we're saying is talented this is a women with SERIOUS heath problems that could cost her her life.. and people like Oprah are coddling her??

Well, there are more "tactful" ways of expressing yourself. However, it's Howard and he never had much tact anyway. Yeah, she probably does need to lose some weight, but if she doesn't get many movie roles, she may be forced to lose weight if she wants to continue in the business. Otherwise, they will have to accomodate her by writing movie roles she would be able to play. As for Oprah, she's gained quite a bit of weight back also! To criticize would be the pot calling the kettle black!

It is fairly obvious the poor girl needs to lose weight..so I don't think that calling her out and ebarrassing her is the right thing to do. Anyone looking at her can see she is at an unhealthy weight..and though it probably will shock Mr. Stern..I'm sure she knows that too. Saying hurtful things isn't helping anymore than "coddleing." There have been several overweight stars who have had good careers (queen latifah comes to mind) and most have used their opportunities as a star to slim down and become healthier. Why wouldn't she have a career? Typecasted maybe, but so what? I just don't see how being a nasty twit is gonna help anything. Just an opportunity to feel superior.

I think Howard says exactly what he and everyone else is thinking, and that's why most do not like him - his not politically correct. I've listened to his show for years, although some of his banter is extreme, I do tend to agree with some of his opinions. And I do agree with the one about this young girl.

He didn't say anything hurtful, he wasn't trying to feel superior...he merely stated it's wrong of Oprah to she'll get movie roles and be a big movie star...that isn't realistic...the majority of fatties in Hollywood get like you said, "typecasted" or are the stars of comedies....
His point was stop lying to her telling her she's beautiful and get her on an exercise/diet regieme before she dies of a heartattack before 30...

You are right. There is no point in criticizing and I'm quite certain she knows she is overweight. Also correct on Queen Latifa. Great actress and again, perhaps movie roles won't come like they would for Sandra Bullock, but it isn't out of the question.

Umm he made several very hurtful remarks abotu her size..even calling her as big as a planet...I don't know about you..but that would hurt me...and so what..if she is typecasted..isnt that still a career? I do think she has a very pretty face..telling her she is as big as a planet and nasty things like that isnt a solution either. Not to mention..why is it his, or even Oprah's place to tell her to lose weight? I'm sure she knows. And hell..if she wasn't fat..she would have never had her big break. I do think she is unhealthy..duh...I just fail to see why its everyone's responsibility to point that out. She was choosen to play a fat character..not head a cross country team.

lol I guess I am not sensitive....because if someone called me fat I wouldn't cry about it, I'd get in shape...
I'm with Cowgirl...I listen to Stern almost everyday and I think it was more of a bluntness that people are uncomfortable with....
The fact of the matter is she is morbidly obese, and like everyone in that condition needs their lifestyle changed so they won't be taken from loved ones at an early age, won't be living in hospitals, etc.....

Beating her over the head about being overweight, that they clearly know, isn't going to get them in shape. It's abusive. That would be like calling someone "an idiot" or "stupid" when someone has a learning disability. It's cruel and mean. It's as simple as that! Period! Howard Stern HAS NO TACT. That is why he WAS FIRED FROM DC101. When someone says "I wonder if I can get a one way ticket to the 14th Street Bridge", CLEARLY HAS NO SENSITIVITY.

How old is that girl? If she doesn't improve her situation how long do you think she'll live? Who would want to live like that?
The fact that she was perfect for the tragic role should be an indicator that her situation is tragic!
The whole, "Everyone is beautiful, everyone gets a trophy" mentality has to stop!

I don't think he can hear you on that huge stack of money he is sitting on:killingme
And it's not the same thing as calling someone with a learning disability an idiot....someone with a learning disability is born with a defect that doesn't allow them to process information normally......eating a surplus of calories and laying around all day isn't a genetic defect...it's called "sloth"

Psssst. It doesn't take much at all to be labeled "morbidly obese". http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/obesity/bmi_tbl.pdf
This woman is beyond Extreme Obesity (not my label, but the National Institute of Health), and is almost certainly within the Super Morbidly Obese category.

The BMI is garbage....I'm not sure what they were thinking when they decided that actually was an acceptable standard for determing someones body composition/health.

But considering that is the measurement standard that almost everyone uses, what can you do? What is the better tool to use? You know, for those folks who do not have a pool handy to determine floatation criteria and all that jazz....

Well congratulations to Captain Obvious, Mr. Howard Stern!
Because we didn't know that she was fat, nor did we know that she is black (which according to Howard must be a DOUBLE WHAMMY since he decided to also harp on the fact of her skin color).
Why is it really necessary for him to say, "'She's the most enormous, fat black chick I've ever seen"?
That's akin to me saying that he is the most ugly, repulsive Jew I've ever seen. I'm sure he's heard that many times, though, so he's used to it. And the fact that Ms. Fat Robin co-signs his nonsense is what really gets me.
Monique, Gabby's co-star in the movie, "Precious" is just as FAT and BLACK as Ms. Sidibe, and she has had a great career as a comedian and actress. Gabby seems like a comedian of sorts herself. She is very funny and has a great personality. She just seems so pleasant to be around; her cheerfulness is contageous (from what I've seen in interviews).
I used to listen to Howard Stern every morning on the radio. He is entertaining, he really is. This is what he does, I get it. He makes an a** of himself for a living. But I simply disagee with the way he delivered his message.

Well he doesn't make a dime of it off of me because I can't stand him.
A bunch of years back, we had a thread about Howard moving to Sirius (or wherever). Some of the comments weren't very complimentary to him, and we got an influx of his fans from his official Howard Stern fansite over here causing trouble. I'm telling you, these were the most juvenile, profane, ignorant, offensive pack of *heads I've ever seen on here. And that's saying something. Complete social rejects who should have been partial-birth aborted.
I wasn't a big fan of Howard "Butt Bongo Fiesta" Stern prior to that, and afterward I actively loathed him because this is the type of audience he caters to and encourages.

He likes disagreement, it's part of his idea of creating controversy. That's been his M.O. for a long time, always pushing the envelop on what gets listeners (and pre-Sirius FCC) to react..one way or another. All about ratings.
Some of his stuff I thought was funny, some of it not. Haven't listened to him in years, but it sounds like he hasn't changed.

I think Sirius recruiting Stern and paying a LUDICROUS amount of money for him is why they aren't a stand alone company anymore. No way they could pay out that kind of money and stay profitable.
