Hey guys,
I was taking a trip down memory lane the other day and I started thinking about the children's shows that were on a good 30 years ago in MD.
Do you guys remember the shows Romper Room, Bozo the Clown, Captain Chesapeake or Pete the Pirate? What did you think about them? Did you or your children watch them? What effect did it have on you or them?
Lets get a good topic going and reminisce on the good old days of public television and children shows.

Pick Temple was a great one for the kids from about 1950 for several years.
See more of his show as well as other DC Area Shows HERE (http://kidshow.dcmemories.com/pick.html). Thirty years ago I was just one year shy of retiring from the Navy!

Yup. I vaguely remember the Captain......one of the predecessors to today's channel 10 amateurs who film everything with a camcorder.

We used to watch Pick Temple, Three Stooges, Romper Room, Mr. Ed, Twilight Zone, Lassie, Ed Sullivan Show. I don't think my daughter watched any of these. I don't think she was even born at the time. Her show was Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers. Those were the days of wholesome tv when we were growing up.

I was on the Pick Temple show and even recited the Pick Temple creed. :diva:
I have no recollection of that momentous occasion.
Romper Room showed a picture that I drew of my church (1970 something). I was such a good Catholic girl back in the day. :ohwell:

Capt 20 (http://captain20.com/) and Count Gore De Val (http://countgore.com/gore/index.html)
In 1979, Channel 20's license renewal was challenged because of the violent, non-educational programming we targeted at children.
kids TV Violent in 1979 ??

Got my attention: We moved to Maryland from New York because my fake Mom got a job as the Romper Room lady. She was on TV in New York and auditioned for the Baltimore job. Remember she got it and did Romper Room for a few shows before taking a new job with some private production company. Thats It
Thanks for the memories

I loved Romper Room because she always saw me thru her looking glass! And I met Captain Chesapeake when I was 16 or 17 and you would have thought I met an Oscar winning actor  It's still one of my cherished celebrity meetings :yay:

H.R. Pufnstuf. That was the show back in the day. Jimmy and Freddy the flute. I watched it when I was older and now I understand it. It was all about drugs!! You had to be high to watch it.
There was also the Kroft Superstars. The Bugaloos, Sigmund and the Seamonsters, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, Dr. Shrinker, Wonderbug, and of course Land of the Lost.
Oh and Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch. Damn and I forgot about Lancelot Link Secret Chimp.

WOW remember all those and does that take me WAY back, LOL. Land of the Lost was one of my favorites of the ones mentioned. Oh and I saw reruns of HR Pufnstuf years later...definitely had to be puffin-stuff to get that show!!
Was very fond of Count Gore De Val (Dad used to let me stay up late to watch it, much to my Mom's horror!!!) and other shows like the Munsters and Addams Family. Met Al Lewis (Grandpa Munster) in a bar in Georgetown about 20 years ago....he was still dressing the part (minus the makeup) but was very gracious to sign autographs and especially happy that I knew his real name and didn't just call him Grandpa!!! Thats one of my cherished celebrity meetings
Anybody remember - The Great Space Coaster?!?! I used to watch this - this was the 80's tho..

And the gerbil races! Does anyone remember the urban legend about the kid at your school who went on the Bozo show in the Peanut Gallery and told him "Can it clown!"
