Why do you suppose there is no interest in the house?

Priced too high? In a less desirable location? Not enough bling?

Great location. The primary complaint is the umpteen different paint colors we installed.

Second, families don't like the back yard.

I have to admit, I get turned off by a lot of colors myself. It's a PIA to primer then paint and if you've got a few rooms to do, well... :ohwell:

Is it a small back yard? Is it fenced?

No, that was the farm house. We're selling the big house we used to live in.

Larry, I thought you were going to have painters come in and neutralize everything? That would be cheaper than dropping the price.

I just called him and I think that's what we're going to do.

The house is huge and the rooms are quite large. I painted in darker colors to give it a more intimate feel. When we get it all done in light neutral, it's going to seem like a freakin' concert hall.

Paint is personal. One woman's perfect blue may be of the cornflower family while the next woman's perfect blue is sky. When I painted my dining room olive green... it had to be the EXACT shade of olive green I wanted or else I would have puked. However, someone else visiting my not agree with my choice... maybe that explains the puke piles I sometimes find behind the curio cabinet...:ohwell:

We've lived in our house for almost 13 years and the only color we have on the walls is half a wall in the bathroom is pale purple. My husband and I can't agree on any other colors for any other rooms so everything else is white. :ohwell: I'm hoping the next house we move into (which won't be for another 15 years when we retire) will have rooms painted. As long as it's not neon, I'll just be happy for some color on the walls. I can work around it with the decorating.

Sometime soon we are going to switch out the game room with our current living room because we need more room for the pool table, shufflebowl table, dart board and pub tables. Once the switch is done, I want to paint the "new" living room this AWESOME shade called Yukon Gold. I believe it would be cozy, and warm and would transition nicely from the dark olive green dining room! Hubby is dead set against that color. :ohwell:

Oh! I think I'll go to the "Ask Vrai" thread to seek her advice...:starcat:!

I just painted my master bedroom a beautiful shade called "Blue Illusion". It is a really pale soft blue that has a metallic finish to it. It's gorgeous. But because of the complexity of the finish, it required four coats of paint, all applied in a specific direction.

It's gorgeous, but I realize now that I freakin' hate painting. Truly.

I believe if you're trying to rent/sell you should welcome potentials with calming colors, not something that will stop traffic. Lighter colors make a home feel bigger, thus people will think they're getting a larger home. Darker colors are just dreary and morbid.

Me and my sis painted her master bedroom with that paint as well! Her accent wall was metallic gold while the rest of it was that shimmery Japanese Red Silk! It turned out very unique and awesome but was a MAJOR pain to paint!

We may have used your blue to do her accent wall in her living room. I love that shade!

I'm thinking a khaki or a pale camel color would be quite nice, and match very pleasingly with the blue from the neighboring bedroom. :yay:

Currently the master bath is a Tuscan yellow/orange. My. Least. Favorite. Color. Ever.

Yep. That is exactly the line of paint we used. I found the blending of the trim to be the most difficult. You also have to be careful with your strokes because mismatched angles and uneven application show up big time when the light hits the wall just right... not a task for the faint of heart...:dead:

We have 16 different paint colors in our house.:dead: Thankfully most of them are the original colors that someone else painted after the build. I dread the day my wife says, "We should paint the _________ room." Which actually translates to, "You will paint the _________ room.":ohwell:

Wow they really do have a metallic finish.Yep. And it is a 4 coat job and you need special rollers.

Picture the door jam in dark walnut and a dark walnut head board and end table and you'd get a better feel for the look of the room... also, her room is HUGE... the area where the bed is is the smallest wall as you enter the grand room. So the leaf gold wall is not as overwhelming as it seems in that picture.

We have been in our house for 5 years and just now painted two of the bedrooms which were pea green and barney purple. Now they are pale blue, and off-white. The dining room was a DARK blue..that got painted the day we moved into the house. It was HIDEOUS.

We still have two more bedrooms to paint(IE hubby paint), two bathrooms, and the hallway. I use accents in the plain colored rooms. Bright curtains, and other stuff.

See, that is one of those ####ed up things where you and I think one way and the rest of the known universe says that buyers simply want that certain look they read in a magazine that it is supposed to be never mind they are going to, in fact, ####ing change it when they move in anyway.

Each and EVERY episode of "Sell this House" I've watched show the prospective buyers being turned off by the current owners "sense of style".

When the designer dude "stages" by neutralizing the walls and leaving ONLY the furniture and items that make each room look like a magazine, ONLY THEN do the prospective buyers walk the rooms and picture their stuff in the home.

That is the key, Larry. Personalized homes only work with the stuff currently there... other stuff brought in will rarely fit the picture.

Exactly. You and I must be the only women in the world who disregard paint and other crap that is easily changed to suit. Hell, I've painted practically every room in my house to get rid of the pastel color scheme the previous owner had going on. It didn't deter me from buying the house one little bit.

Our first place was a rental that had been abandoned then ended up being the neighborhood party/trash house. The wife and I walked in while repairs were underway and after about 10 minutes said, "This is the one."

I can understand Larry's dilemma though people come in and decide they need to point out the things they do not like about the sellers style, paint choices etc. instead of thinking about making small changes to make the house they are looking at their HOME. Yeah I watch HGTV a lot too, but ionly because she makes me!

I can honestly say that if anything needs sanding, finishing or painting, I do it ALL. I'm in the process of repainting the whole house main areas a lovely dark cream with light cream trim and ceiling. Ah, beige-on-beige. However I may just have to hire someone to finish it because my working arm shoulder is completely shot.

I love color too, but need to get ready for the market.

That's the paint brand I used for the rooms in my basement. The Guest Room's color is "Metallic Bronze" and the Family room's color is "Granite Green". The family room's paint had gold crystals package mixed in the paint to have gold "sparkling" on the walls. It's one of our favoritest rooms in the house.

Yes, looking very nice. It's not very noticeable unless you want to take a closer look at the walls and touch it. It is just a little hint of crystals. One small pack of crystal is good enough for one gallon of paint. We bought 12 gallons of paint and 12 packs of crystals to paint entire family room and hallway.

Everyone that comes to my house loves the family room, guest room, downstairs bathroom, and kids' bedrooms. I had my house CMA (Current Market Appraisal Estimate) and appraised done last year, and the Real Estates Realtor and the appraisal guys both loves it! They gave me suggestion to paint my upper level just like my downstairs level. That's our plan to redo the upper level. I haven't pick a color yet... I'm trying to think of a "theme" for the living room. I've already decided my bedroom and the kitchen "themes", and just need color to pick to paint.
