View Full Version : If you ride a bicycle, please read.
When riding on those back roads with no shoulder, could you not be in the center of the lane as I come around that blind turn?
The spandex riding shorts get stuck in the cooling fan and caused me to overheat.
thank you in advance.

I'd be to scared to ride on roads without shoulders, let alone in the middle of road. It's an accidient waiting to happen. I stay on the rail trails or the woods.

If they would cycle with the flow of traffic they would not have that problem

I think my cycle is dysfunctional. No matter how hard I pedal, it doesn't move. In fact, the harder I pedal, the more it stays still.

Exercise bikes tend to do that. It's broke. Throw it out.

You might also think about talking to your buddy on the side of the road instead of riding side by side on Oakley Road.

Why do cyclists use the road when sometimes there is a perfectly good sidewalk right beside them??

I think by law the sidewalk is only to be used my bicyclists if there is no bike lane available. If a bike lane is not available and there is no sidewalk, the bicyclist abides by the same rulse of the road as a vehicle.
Another thing that people don't understand. If you are on wheels, you move in the same direction as vehicles. If one is on foot, you walk/run/skip facing oncoming traffic.

A bicycle is a vehicle, same rules apply to cars and bikes.
Sidewalks are reserved for pedestrians

At the same rate if he was cycling 10 mph he has as much right to the road as others. who cares about the eight miles of cars behind you pay for these roads as well and can go as slow as you want. screw the other drivers:-)No, but the guy trying to drive around him might have a head on with oncoming traffic.

That said, I don't have a lot of sympathy for bicyclists who get hit on roads that they have no business being on. I felt bad about the guy that got hit down south (last year?) He wasn't even on the same side of the road as the guy that hit him. Follow up was in the paper recently. He had plenty of room to stay out of harms way. Just one of those freak things. When it's your time to go..:ohwell:

no, according to the rules I believe you are allowed 15 under the limit.
so, on the back road in question where the limit is 45 he would have to be going at least a constant of 30mph in order to be actually within the legal limit. (if you really want to go that way)
Now, when Im in my truck I like to fall back a bit and wait till I get a good run in front, then I hit the prgrammer and I nail it while I pass. When I do that, I blow this hugh black cloud of coal dust out of the exhaust.
Sometimes, you cant even see them through the cloud. Bet it takes a week for them to get the black off of them.
Cant think of anything better to do to a health freak blocking the road.:killingme

There are constantly bicyclists on the road I live on. It's a very windy well travelled road, with no shoulders and no street lights yet they continue to ride after sundown. There's really no way to pass them safely, too many blind curves. So irritating! I'm amazed I haven't seen an accident here yet.

I'm sure he finds the need for a vehicle on occasion.
Then the vehicle is covered.
the bike isnt.
We have to pay for each vehicle we own, I dont get to buy tags for one then drive however many I want with that one set.
did I mention how fun it is when this one low spot floods on the road and the bikes are in or near the flooded place when you go by really fast?
its like a bike wash for free.

At last, someone that understands how things are paid for and why the need to be shared with everyone that pays taxes.
like sidewalks, does anyone think that they are built and maintained solely by the sale of shoes? NO they are not, therefore there is NO REASON I CANT DRIVE MY CAR ON THEM.

Even down county bicyclist have a nice big shoulder to ride on. But No they have to hug the white line. Which in turn makes it damn hard to stay in your lane with an 8ft wide trailer behind you and other cars coming at you and not wiping out the idiot with your mirror. If they want to take command of the road and act like big dogs then put a license plate on your bicycle and pay the fees that vehicle drivers do.
