How does your adult offspring become an alcoholic without you noticing? Do you just never see them enough to realize they have a problem? Are you just too self-involved to care what's going on? Do you simply feel that, as adults, they're on their own?

John Adams lost two sons to alcohol. It is interesting that Brit Hume's son died of suicide a few years back. The conspiracy theory is Clinton was behind it aka...Arkancide

History:

Koppel was a former attorney for the Housing Authority's civil litigation division. He earned just under $78,000 when he resigned 2 yrs ago.
*Probably couldn't hold the job due to his drinking and hang-overs

In 1993, Koppel was convicted of punching out a senatorial aide in Washington, D.C. Records show he got into a wreck in Maryland in 1990. Authorities suspected alcohol in the property damage accident.

Offspring of the rich and famous have a higher incident of drug/alcohol abuse and suicide than their regular-guy counterparts. Excess privilege isn't good for kids, and coupled with a parent who isn't really there all that much, you're looking at a future problem.

NOTE: This may not be the case with the Koppels. I do not know them and have no idea what their family situation is like. But celebrity kid deaths are so common they're a cliche.

I don't know :shrug: Maybe the parents were in denial as its easier to do than accept your child has a problem. Things can be explained away and they can be lied to and its not hard because - well I guess its what the parents wants to hear versus their kid has a problem :shrug: Or they just dind't want to deal with it. Maybe they have the kid's "on his own at 18 or something" mentality and they are an adult. :shrug: At some point in time the person drinking has to own the responsibliity for himself - He was 40 - not 14 :lol: I don't think its Ted's fault. Ted wasn't buying the alcohol for him at the bars. :lol:

addicts suck the life out of you. You can only go so far before you give up and would prefer to see them dead, so you don't have to worry anymore.

I will not blame Koppel for the death of his son. I know many adults who pay no attention to parebts and I knoiw man children the same way.

There are some people you can help and guide and there are others you cannot.

Each inidvidual is responsible for themself, addiction to alcohol or drugs take away that responsibility and no one is to blame but the poor stupid addict.

I know too many parents who have spent small fortunes in Reahbs for kids who had drugs sneaked to them in rehab and came out as bad as they went in. How many times has Patches Kennedy been to rehab? I admit his father was a poor example. We do not know if Kopple sent this kid to rehab or that the kid would have gone if he had tried.

Lets place the blame where it belongs. Square on the shoulders of the dead.

My sympathy to his father and family. I am sure he had hurt them many times before this.

:lol: oh... :lol: Its odd she didn't think - "convulsions/seizures... let me get this guy some help..." nope... the party goes on and has a third person now come over to drink beers with them. Guess in her small apartment there was now room for another person to sit again :lol: Maybe there's more to this. Normally people dont' just take stray people home with them like stray animals do they? Drunk ones at that?? :confused: I think they were doing drugs and didn't want to get caught and just hoped he'd snap out of it or something so they wouldn't get busted? Maybe? :shrug:

Seriously, it is sad no matter what. He was old enough to work it out. People do it everyday. Prays to his family and friends. I do not think it is just rich and famous that have the problems, we just hear about it more. No, dad or mom is not at fault unless you are a dimrat.

Excellent movie Days of Wine and Roses tell a great story behind it. It looks much worst up close as I watched my friends parents and co-works fight it. There is another movie where they have a gun to a guys head tell him to drink or they will shoot him, can't remember that one. Bush kick the habit and he became President.
