Here goes Lo-retta:

She admits that her guy's a bit of a dog and not averse to chasing skirt, yet she loves him and wants to beat up his girlfriend instead.

Interesting, eh?

Wouldn't it be easier to kick his ass rather than everyone else's?

His is the ass that should be kicked. But I'm sure he's not worth the trouble.

Yes!!!

The other one I love and always make reference to is...."You ain't woman enough to take my man". If he was that great of a man, he wouldn't be w/her in the first place and would be w/you!!! I'd say "Keep the louse..better you than me!!" Oh, and my all time favorite..."Stand by your man" by Tammy Wynette. Even though he's just a schmuck and eyeballs every woman around, you should stand beside him and be his enabler/co-dependent all because god didn't give him brains except in his pants! Yeah right, that would be my reason to stay. If he's that blind...get him a four legged seeing eye dog and call it a day! :loser:

It's a sad commentary on our pop culture that it's considered "tough" to "fight for your man". Especially when what you should be telling him is:

See, that thinking overlooks the actual goal that is motivating the action (and the decision as to which action to take). Before we can assess how well a particular action or reaction advances a particular goal, we have to accurately identify the goal.

In such cases, often the goal - not the facial one, but the one buried inside and usually denied on the surface, but which underlies our actions and forcefully compels our (seemingly) nonsensical decisions - is to restore our damaged ego by proving to ourselves that our betrayer, who has just hurt us and inflamed our fundamental insecurities by wanting someone else more than they wanted us, really does, in the end, still want us more than they want the other person.

So, with that goal (unconsciously) driving us, attacking the betrayer wouldn't do any good - it would seem likely to diminish whatever interest they might still have in us. On the other hand, our misguided (and probably now highly dysfunctional and desperate) reasoning mechanism might convince us that attacking the other person will make them less attractive, and us more attractive, to our betrayer. Perhaps it will make them look weak or demonstrate the depths of our conviction. Hopefully that will help our betrayer realize that it is us that they really want, and that they had made a mistake. Of course, that's not how it usually works, and if we had our wits about us we would understand and accept that. However, by this time our insecurities have overwhelmed us, our desperation is in charge, and our reason-based decision making has fled the scene because it didn't want to have to listen to the incessant emotional blathering that's taken the stage.

The result: it makes more sense to attack the other person rather then our betrayer. But, it would be hard to turn what I've just said into a hit song, so Loretta went with:

Now you've been making your brags around town that you've been loving my man ...

The early 70's must have been a rough time to hold onto your husband!

Jolene is a GREAT song! :yay:

:pete: It wasn't a rough time to hold onto a husband. No different than other time period. That's been going on since Adam & Eve.

Women performers were coming into their own in the 60's and 70's and were expressing it!! R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Here's a big hit from Lo-retta.

SOME WOMEN WERE ATTEMPTING the RESPECT, however songs like "You ain't woman enough and Stand by your man" wouldn't exactly define respect. IMO it simply states "I'm a doormat." However, here is another thought, where does respect lie in a "woman's lib" generation? Kind of hard to want respect when a woman is grabbing at some man's pants saying "I want sex!"

But, it would be hard to turn what I've just said into a hit song

You could probably go metal with it, if you had an excellent bass pound. I mean, if someone can have a hit with "We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun..."

It's not that. Women give sex to get love; men give love to get sex. So what the little woman is hoping for is love, but she feels the only thing she has to offer is the booty.

Aretha, on the other hand, wants R-E-S-P-E-C-T and tells you you better think, think about what you're tryin' to do to her. You don't want to fiddle with The Queen too much.

Interestingly, many of those country stars who sang about standing by their man and hanging on to him at all costs were getting their asses beat on a regular basis by their beloved.

Now see, that explains it - Loretta's handlers probably told her she wouldn't be able to pull of metal, so she went the Fist City route with her message.

I wasn't talking about all women, just some of the women. Even the soul sister Aretha was singing about RESPECT back then is what I meant.

And "he/she done me wrong" country songs really weren't all that uncommon back then anyway. Pretty much 98% of the songs were like that.
