I saw that and thought of this girl I saw on rt 2 yesterday.
we are at a light, I look over and she is texting away, both hands. Light turns green and she takes off, didnt put her hands on the wheel, but kept texting and trying to steer with her knee while she went on her way.

she almost rear ended the car in front at the next light. You know I would have stuck around to explain the situation to the police when they got there.

upside was I doubt she was going fast enough to kill anyone if she would have hit.

That was tough to watch, but the reality is that most people don't think of anything but themselves. So they could watch this a thousand times, and they will still jump in their vehicle and speed, text, tailgate and whatever else they do besides try not to kill someone else.

You never think it's going to happen to you...until it does.

I dont think so. There is no way you can watch that and not let it have some affect on you.
Personally, I dont want to do something stupid and kill someone else. This video just drives home how fast it can happen.

I only watched about 1/2 of it (too sappy). I must say the couple pedestrians in the beginning asked for it when they walked out into traffic from between parked cars. Much of it was staged or edited.

I'm pretty sure it was all staged and edited. It's unlikely there would be actual video of these horrible vehicle maimings.

People drive like freaks and pay absolutely no attention. Dumb bia pulled right out in front of me in VA on 301 today. Fortunately my super Spidey senses warned me that she was going to do that - she just gave off the aura - so I slowed down, otherwise I'd have t-boned her.

Then a pack of motorcyclists made me say cusswords because they pulled around me like they were going to turn right, then didn't turn. There was some hesitation while they made up their feeble minds, then they pulled in front of me to continue on their way.

THEN, when I was exiting onto 95 from 17, not one but TWO cars passed me on the shoulder. If I hadn't seen them and slowed to let them get to the exit lane ahead of me....

People drive like maniacs. I'm sure you could show any of those morons that video, and they'd pick their nose, examine the nostril contents for a minute, and go right back on their merry way.

best thing that happened to me was when I was driving like an ass and slid off the road and cut a telephone pole in half with the side of my car.
Nobody was killed, But I cut power to half of Md City and I realized that yes, it could happen to me.

That video was just.. wow.. While I'd agree that parts are staged/edited, similar real events have happened, I'm sure..

Some jackass in a red car was tailgating me in my own neighborhood about 5 minutes ago. The speed limit is 25, mr. red car. You're lucky I was pushing it at 30. But then when I put my turn signal on to turn into my driveway and hit the brakes, he almost ran into me.. and if I didn't turn when I did, I know he would have. You can't trust anyone on the roads.. they're mostly all lunatics. (Sorry to those of you who aren't!)

I've noticed this new guy in the morning. I've seen him about 3 times now. He drives a black pickup up rt 4 in the morning between 5 - 5:30 am. This guy has to be doing around 90 - 100 mph zipping between vehicles. I am convinced I'll eventually see this pinhead - along with about 5 other cars - flipped and thrown from his POS truck.

I just don't get it.

Crazy video... reminds me of the story/pictures of "Porsche Girl," Nikki Catsouras (if you havnt already heard the story and/or seen the pictures, DO NOT google her... unless you have a very strong stomach for grursome pictures and have a very strong tolerance for utterly cruel people).

Yesterday on the innerloop of the beltway coming home my Mom, myself and one other lady that commutes with us were just driving along when we see a tire come FLYING from the left lane up and over an 18-wheeler (with about 10 feet to spare), bounce off the road and up into the trees.

I look over to my left - 3 car accident into the jersey wall right before Exit 17 toward Largo/Rt 202. I dont know what caused the accident (Im guessing only fatal crashed actually make internet news reports lol) but considering there was really light traffic around that time yesterday, Im sure someone was driving irresponsibly. I certainly hope everyone is OK.

Australian in nature, TAC, Victorias Traffic Accident Commission, they do these every year or two.

http://www.tacsafety.com.au/jsp/homepage/home.jsp

There are a few real clips in there, but not many. Shouldn't be effective, but people shouldn't drive like idiots. I do take exception to the term "speeders" being lumped in with the idiots. Most folks speed, few are idiots about it. and speed alone rarely causes issues, its how you speed that is the issue. 60 in a 45, say on 235. Very safe, unless of course you try to do it at say 4:45pm.

Folks simply dont envision the end result of driving poorly. Which is what this video is supposed to do. Of course here in the States, you might offend someone, much easier to isolate the drivers from the mayhem they may cause. I think letting them see it might help. i know a trip through a junkyard is a sobering experience. The twisted and crumpled and torn metal is one thing. The personal items left in cars are the most sobering, though. CDs, receipts, trinkets that hung on rearviews, symbols of a life not interrupted, but stopped in its tracks.

There are some who speed who are idiots, but there are also "timid" drivers who are idiots.

Yes. The speedlimit on the beltway between Rt 202 and Conn. Ave is like 55 or 65. Technically when you are doing the speed limit, you are following the law. But when EVERYONE AROUND YOU is doing 75+, yes they may be wrong, but doing 10mph to 20mph slower than everyone else is DANGEROUS. These drivers usually feel the need to drive in one of the two "center" lanes instead of getting in the far right lane. They usually are also too scared to pass an 18-wheeler and slow down. These same people are usually the ones who STOP for a squirrel on backroads.

Ridiculous. Drives me NUTS.

Yes, speeding is dangerous. But there is a different between "speeding" and "driving like an idiot." Sometimes doing the actual speed limit makes you the idiot driver, however ironic that may seem.

Oh, your preaching to the choir on that one, believe me. :buddies: Timidity causes plenty of wrecks, not just through speed differential. Because what does the timid driver usually do when it all goes to hell? Nothing, instead of taking action that might mitigate, if not completely negate the imminent crash.

These are pretty easy to spot in the paper. Look for the words "lost control of", or "the vehicle crossed the centerline", or words that seem to indicate demons possessed the vehicle.

The Mister Magoo syndrome. "I didn't cause it - I was driving under the speed limit". Cop looks back at the aftermath behind him, just shakes his head.

So if the law says I should not steal then I should because everyone else is? Wouldn't everyone be happier if I didn't steal? Speeding is no different. If the speed limit in your neighborhood is 25 then 60 is perfectly acceptable? I may not stick to the posted limits, but I do not get enraged at those that do. You should never be in such a rush that you put yourself in danger with aggressive driving, there are way too many distracted drivers that already put you in their crosshairs. Be safe and make good choices. :buddies:

If people are stealing so much to the point that I am in danger of not being able to buy food because there isnt any left to be bought... then yes, stealing would be SMART, to feed your family. Still not right, but SMART.

Ok so my point is a stretch. But your comparison is a stretch, so I just went with it

I dont necessarily get "enraged" at those who do the speed limit. I get mad at those who do it in the left lane. If you're going slower than everyone else around you, MOVE OVER.

You're right about the distracted drivers. I do my damndest to be safe and I do make good choices... even if that choice is driving faster than the speed limit in order to keep up with traffic :buddies:

And BTW - theres a difference between speeding in a neighborhood and speeding on the beltway.

I agree points are stretched, but consider children in your neighborhood, some know to stay out of the street and look both ways. Yet most don't and would cause accidents if we all drove way over the speed limit. And yes there is a difference between the beltway and neighborhoods....more people die on the beltway because they choose to drive faster there than where thay live. I guess if the mob rules on the road, then laws need to be changed and signs must read keep up or get off the road instead of the speed limit. Live fast and die young is not what I would think is acceptable for anyone

I said 60mph in the 45mph zone on 235, not through a 25mph residential district. Not quite the same thing, wont you agree? And speeding is different than stealing. Stealing has a victim, whomever you stole from has lost the value of whatever you stole. Speeding, if done safely, has no victim. note the safely part, that's very important. No aggressive stuff, no bumper riding, or unsafe lane changes, never faster than say a 5mph difference in traffic, that sort of thing.

So, I say speeding is not unsafe, if done properly, I say no traffic on a three lane divided highway, you change that into 60mph in a 25mph, with kids around, and talk of aggressive driving. Hmm, sorry, but I didnt describe what you did, and agree with you that folks speeding like that, and driving aggressively should be dealt with. Dont equate speed with aggressive driving, they are not always the same. Dont buy the propaganda, speed kills when folks speed stupidly, otherwise, it doesnt.

People die on the beltway becuase they dont drive well. They do makeup, or stop to look at accidents, or decide that 55 in the fast lane rocks, or they speed +30 over what everyone else is doing. Speed isnt the problem, poor driving is.

You and me think alike. My favorite is to throw the arm up on the top of seat and slow down in 5mph increments depending on their reaction. If they try to bulldoze me up on my bumper a few feet, I slow down another 5mph and keep doing so untill they get the message. They usually back way off for our continued pleasurable drive. I love watching them scream in the mirror up on your bumper and start slamming the dashboard. That is just icing on the cake for me. Make sure you show no response other than the speed changes cause that drives them crazy even more. Saftey is our primary concern of course :burning:

LOL, I will do the slowing waaaay down if they are only person behind me, but when there are others behind the tailgater, it's not fair to hold up a huge line of traffic for one azzhole. So I go right at the speedlimit and wash my windshield squeaky clean!

I had some girls brakecheck me really hard one time.

STORY TIME!

I ended up having a super long commute home one day riddled with idiot drivers so I decided to take backroads through northern Calvert/southern Anne Arundel along the bay to chill out, relax, etc. before I got home. I came around a sharp turn, probably doing about 10 over, and came up on a Mustang who was stopped for a Explorer which was turning. I didn’t realize they were stopped, so by the time I came to a stop I was a little closer to them than I would have liked, but I came no where near hitting them. Well they played the speed-up-slow-down and full-stop-brake-check game with me for the next 4 miles down this really twisty road. Now, I’ve rear-ended someone before so Im very conscious about keeping a safe distance. There was no need for them to pull that crap.

Finally they get up to the speed limit for about half a mile. I thouht everything was cool but then all of a sudden coming around a down-hill sloped, 90 degree bend in the road with no shoulder, the driver decided to slam on her brakes and come to a COMPLETE STOP in the middle of the road. I had to swerve into the oncoming traffic lane to avoid hitting them (it was either that or bite a tree), and cut my wheel back into the correct lane in front of them. I ended up sideways in the road.

I got out of my car. And threatened their lives. They were all of 19 and were running their mouths and informed me that if I had hit them it would have been my fault. I was like "*BZZZZZ!!!* WRONG! Brakechecking is illegal, bia." The driver then invited me to “Do something about it.” I snapped. My “southern belle” went right out the window as I walked over to the driver’s window screaming “Oh, Do something about it? You want me to DO something about it?!” Their eyes were so big they looked like anime characters :lmao:

I of course didn’t do anything, though. After they just sat there looking scared shytless I just laughed and shook my head and got back in my car and enjoyed the rest of my cruse home

I hate stupid people.

:roflmao: I got a good chuckle at that one too

Wow, you probably could of called the cops on that one;since they did it several times before slamming brakes. I aint that cruel although when I was young and dumb and "could not die", I would brake check in a heartbeat for somebody tailgating me (I am talking less than 5 feet) Now I give them every oportunity to back off by me slowing down till they get the message. As long as you don't reach the minimum speed your good to go. The way I see it is if you try to drop the dime and call the cops (who are too busy with actual law enforcement) you will be speaking to deaf ears. They are risking my life by driving on my arse. Slowing everything down reduces the risk to my life. :killingme It has not failed me yet to just slow down 5mph at a time for short timeframe untill they see I will not speed up to the previous speed untill they back the #### off. I get a chuckle when they start beating up their car though LOL (priceless):killingme

Black Chevy Pickup, fairly new?

He's going so fast and it's still kind of dark out. I can't tell. I'm going to have to pay more attention for when he's coming.

I do agree with you that speeding can be done in a safe manner. The speeding while aggressively driving has victims and as you said should be dealt with. I also agree that speed in itself does not kill, but when done with stupidity (name your distraction) it does cause fatalities that should not have happened.

To the tailgater that almost slammed into my backend when I (god forbid) pulled over for the approaching ambulance, back up and familiarize yourself with the law regarding what to do when ambulances are approaching.
To the guy who flashed his lights at me when I was hauling ass towards that speed trap, Thank You! Good looking out!!!! :buddies:

How ironic. :ohwell:

Yes the irony. One has someone speeding behind me and about to slam into me because they don't know that you're supposed to pull over when emergency vehicles approach with lights and sirens activated. The other has me by my lonesome on a stretch of road until someone passed me and reminded me that I was going too fast. :geek:
