I just witness'ed the wildest thing i ever saw, so far.
Back Story: Last fall i noticed i had a pair of yellow tail Hawks living in the forest, doing a little reasearch i moved an old Owls Box to a tree at the end of the woods facing sunrize. Over the winter watched as the Hawks nested there and this spring emerged 2 baby Hawks. Over the past few months the adult Hawks bring the babies to the pool every morning to drink and bathe. Last week i watched as the 2 babies [one on each side] trapped and attacked a squirrel while one of the adult Hawks sat near by on the ground watching.
This Morning. Noticed the German Shedder at the edge of the woods running in tight circles and snapping at the ground. Next a Hawk flys down and struggles to get this big ass snake 5, 5-1/2 ft long up and drops it twice, on the second drop the Shedder picks it up and shakes the crap out of it and tears it up. As she is munching on and rolling over on snake parts 2 young Hawks and an Adults sit within 3 feet of the Sheeder and munch away before flying off with bits O snake. The Hawks and Shedder would just glance at each other.
To cool, i now have a video camera trained in the area and hope to get some video.

When I read that in the title of the thread, I thought this was another classified ad.

I googled and google asked if I meant Shepherd or shredder.

Having two large ones myself that I clean up after ALL DAY LONG this time of year I'm gonna guess GERMAN SHEPHERD. Oh-and I'm stealing that term for my use too-if you don't mind! It's perfect.

Do they know the difference between poisonous and non poisonous snakes?

I don't know about that, but they know the difference between a good human and a bad one. I am guessing they would deem you bad type.

Red looks yellow, until i researched further. Red Tail Hawks, stand corrected.
If you ever owned a German Shepard, you'd understand "shedder"

Very cool.. I have two predator birds in our yard. I THINK one maybe a redtailed hawk, and the other a much larger bird. I'm thinking a brown eagle OR a juvenile bald eagle.

Almost every afternoon when I come home, one or the other is just sitting in the grass. I keep thinking their eating something they've caught, and I've been out there several times to see what it is they maybe snacking on, but I've never found anything.

I've GOT to get the camera out.

 Didn't know red-tails would nest in an old owl's box! Neat story, too. :yay:

Could be an isolated incident with the snake, but with young hawks-in-training, you're right in training your video in the area. Hope you get something you can share. Good luck.

p.s. I didn't know what a german shedder was either.

Red tails are lazy and will use what they find to nest in...with so many trees being taken down, they are loosing their nest sites.

Juvenile eagles are huge..3.5-4' tall!!!
Here is a very good photo of one EAGLE (http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://greennature.com/gallery/raptor-pictures/juvenile-bald-eagle.jpg&imgrefurl=http://greennature.com/article146.html&usg=__zd5QmWir6h0M-odAws28ZGUp8FA=&h=577&w=400&sz=45&hl=en&start=20&itbs=1&tbnid=vAuYmqcLvpg8AM:&tbnh=134&tbnw=93&prev=/images%3Fq%3Djuvenile%2Beagles%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG%26gbv%3D2%26tbs%3Disch:1)

Yep, the head, and the beak especially look right.. It was the beak that made me think "eagle" in the first place.

That and the size difference between the two birds is extraordinary. The small one is either a hawk or a falcon (betting on a red tailed Hawk) and what I think is an eagle is at least 3 - 4 times the size.

Cool!!!!:buddies:
The feathers of a juvenile are longer than the adult...think "training" wings!! More surface area, easier to fly in the beginning year!!!
Amazing birds!!
Enjoy your new neighbors!!!:howdy:
