AMC has delivered some great shows in the past few years in Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Rubicon. I just learned that they're bringing forth a new series called "The Walking Dead".
I have been waiting for something like this to sprout up. I'm a devout Living Dead fan and cannot wait for October to come around so I can start catching these episodes.
From the director of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile and the producer of The Terminator and Aliens. This debuts Halloween.

Wouldn't surprise me but it could be quite the opposite. This story is actually based on a long-standing comic book series.
Nevertheless, multiple ideas are borrowed and used. Rarely is an original thought or idea generated these days. Supposedly, this series is going to deliver some of that.
Yeah looking forward to this, Oct 31 is a good night to show it!

Question: Do you think he had any connection to the zombie with half a body that he put down near the end?
Question: If YOUR wife/husbande were a zombie, could you shoot them in the head?
Question: Would you have split up like the main character and the father and son did in the show?
Question: Would you have deliberately traveled to a major city during a zombie epidemic?

No, I think he felt sorry for partial zombie
I sure as hell could. I have seen a few zombie flicks where the one you know comes back to bite ya in the azz.
No, splitting up is usually a bad idea. So is firing a gun from the house you and your son holed up in.
Nope, everyone knows that is a sure fire way to get yourself in trouble. However, should you choose to do that then be sure to ride in on a big ole horse for the zombies to munch on while you make a getaway. :deadhorse:mad:

1. I thought he just felt sorry for it. That is based on the fact that he went back to put it out of it's misery and said "I'm sorry this happened to you."
2. If I had to I would definitely. However, I would rather run away.
3. I probably would have stuck around with the father and son. Strength in numbers and I hate being alone.
4. Hell no. Although, that was awesome. Almost like a Western rollin' into a big town on horseback.

Watched it thought it was good, but am confused about walking dead type stuff. They are dead, but they can hear gunshots, they stumble but don't run too well, but if you are running in front of them thay can see you. Now the one that the deputy killed in the park looked pretty munched up when they catch you do they eat you, if so how come there are so many of them that don't look like her? Don't get me wrong liked the show.

Hi. I have no accredited degree in Zombie Studies...BUT....
Zombies aren't dead. They are undead. Somewhere in between the living and the dead. Thus, they can see, hear, taste (blood and brains preferred), touch, and smell (not sure on this one).
I presume they walk slow, stumble, and are generally not graceful is due to the fact their bodies are not truly alive, thus everything is not working 100%, from a nerve impulse and muscle aspect.
Do Zombies feel physical or emotional sensations? Good question. As a general rule, it appears that most (99.99%) Zombies experience no physical or emotional senation. However, every once in awhile, you will see a Zombie expressing some kind of emotion (like the Zombie in the business suit, who, we can tell, is smarter than your average Zombie).
And of course, it varies from picture to picture. In George Romero's Zombie-verse, Zombie do express a sense of loss, frustration, and even anger when their fellow Zombies are killed. Again though, not all the Zombies show this penchant for feeling, just the "smart" ones. Maybe their brains are more alive than their fellow Zombie, and they can feel more.
In other movies like 28 Days Later (awesome movie BTW), the "Zombies" move faster. But, in the case of that movie, they are not really Zombies, but infected with the Rage virus. So forget them.
I think we could talk all night about what Zombies are meant to represent. And I would bet there is a lot of content on the Internet to read.
Some think Zombies represent the mass market culture, that's why many Zombie movies take place in Shopping Malls. The Zombies naturally head their as some sort of instinct, and the survivors go there for refuge.....and lattes.

LCS

I thought episode 2 was just as good as the first episode. I liked that the main character was not trapped in that tank for the entire episode. I like that there are smart folks (that asian guy). He's obviously seen his share of Zombie movies and knows how to survive in a Zombie infested world.
Set me straight on one thing: In the camp, is the buddy cop sleeping with the main character's wife? If so, what's up with that? Does she think he is dead? If so, it looks like the main character gets to that camp next episode.
I also like that there appears to be more to the story of the racist handcuffed on the roof. And he has some kin at the camp as well.
And apparently Zombies can smell! Though I could not help thinking about the scene from Shawn of the Dead.........
And, can you really wipe Zombie guts all over you without getting infected?
I am eager to hear all your thoughts on this episode......

I feel like the guy banging out the cops wife is kind of skeezy...I mean I know they are boys and all, but when he was asking him about his wife in the first episode it was kinda akward.....I feel like maybe he was doing it with her before the whole shooting incident? I think the wife and buddy have been shackin' up way before Rick got injured.
Rick seems to be a born leader and I can see some tension arising when he takes hold of the camp of settlers. The settlers clearly don't like the way his buddy is running the show and his buddy isn't going to like Rick just coming in and naturally taking over.
Should be great drama!

Can't wait for him too show up at the camp with his ex partner and his wife hooking up. Not real sure what is going to happen to the dude handcuffed on the roof don't really care if he just disappears or not.. Not sure if these zombie people have some kind of residual memory and if he is turned may remember where the camp is. Wondering if the first two survivors the dad and kid will reappear or not. I finally got around to watching the first two episodes this weekend. For the most part I liked them.
I was hoping they were the fast zombies, like in Romaro's remake of Dawn of the Dead, but these are kind of intermediate Zombies, not as slow as Night of the Living Dead, but not as fast as DotD.
I was kind of cofused about how the lead character survived in the hospital without fluids or food for what looks like a week or two, and how he managed to not soil himself that entire time (plus, since when do nurses let you where your boxers under your hospital gown?).
The special effects are top rate and the action non-stop, all that I like.
How come when the LC was trapped in the tank, he didn't just start up the tank and get out of dodge in that armored zombie crusher? I've never been in a tank before let alone started one, but are they pushbutton start or require a key? That would have been my first priority. Also, I noticed a loaded fifty caliber machine gun on the top of the tank (or was it the humvee) and that would have cleared a lot of that zombie mob.
So far I give it two thumbs up.

I like trying to figure out if the buddy cop is good, bad, or just stupid. All of the above. He saved the wife, kid, screwed her and hoped the hubby was really dead. He did appear happy when his friend returned.
I like that they hint that the zombies are encroaching on the camp. Already happened. Didn't you see it eat the deer? I heard a mention of one can of beans left and they had no luck catching frogs.

How come when the LC was trapped in the tank, he didn't just start up the tank and get out of dodge in that armored zombie crusher? I've never been in a tank before let alone started one, but are they push button start or require a key? That would have been my first priority. Also, I noticed a loaded fifty caliber machine gun on the top of the tank (or was it the humvee) and that would have cleared a lot of that zombie mob.
So far I give it two thumbs up.

I don't want to go watch it again, but I might. How did Merle get back inside the building? They had to cut the chain that led back into the building to keep the walkers off the roof where Merle was cuffed. The broken window did show that he had left the building, but how did he get back in?

OK everyone help me with my mathe here. First off love the show and think it is great. Math question, when the WD attacked the camp, obviously Ed is gone and needs a bullet, which i am sure most of the people ther would have liked to do to him before the attack, will not miss him at all. Young blondie girl is gone and needs a bullet, too bad liked her much better than Ed. I thought while all the fighting was going on i saw someone else get bitten, who was that? Were 2 or 3 survivors bitten last night and if so who was the 3rd one? And who knows where Merle is and what he is going to be up to. It's too bad the cavalry got back just a tad too late. I did not realize they were as close to Atlanta as they showed last night. 2 Thumbs up great show.

If my memory serves.....I think they followed Merle's blood trail down a fire escape (side of the roof top) and into a lower floor window, then past 2 dead zombies, then to the stove where he cauterized his bleeding stump, then to a broken window, where they debated why he left the safety of the building.

Right now, (1900 Sat), they are both 20.00 dollars on steam. I picked up L4Dead I on steam for 9.97 a few months back. They run specials.
Also there are L4 Dead custom maps you can download and install to keep it interesting.

Interesting side on the name of the show, i read this on another WD forum, and hadn't really thought of it. The name of the show "The Walking Dead" does not refer to to the the Zombies, it refers to the Survivors. I have not read any of the walking dead comics or books, but i do like the show.

I was a little disappointed. Usually when you make a 90 minute premier, you usually don't just add 30 minutes of extra commercials.
The story wasn't bad, it seemed to start very strong. The herd scene under tr cars was pretty intense. Died off the last half and became a tad stale. Strong ending, hopefully it's a good season!

I loathed all the commercials but that's what this is all about, the mighty $. That's why AMC fired the producer and cut the show's budget.
If they go through the story by how the book goes, it will be a very good season.

Echoes my sentiments. Toes were curling as the "herd" walked by with the folks under the cars - but almost everything else had me bored. I'm curious about one or two developments - running into other camps of survivors, and finding out why the zombies "herd".

The books answer many of your questions and are a lot more violent than the show.
As described by Dr. Eugene Porter, a herd is when zombies act with a mob mentality. One zombie might brush his hand on a doornob and another will see this and mistake it as an attempt to get in. Then he will beat on the door to get in, and the first zombie will see this and try to get in. This will spark a chain reaction.
It can be hundreds or in one case in the book, thousands of zombies all herded walking almost aimlessly together.

Yes, they are. There are so many that you can buy them all in a series of books, which are excellent.

Shane killed Otis because it was the expedient thing to do. Shane knew that they both couldn't survive with their injuries and he choose to save himself over Otis. The audience may forgive Shane somewhat because Otis only appeared in two episodes and he clearly isn't going to be a main character in this incarnation of the story. But if Rick had been with Shane under the same circumstances, I can almost guarantee that Shane would have killed his friend in the exact same way.
What Shane did doesn't automatically make him a villain, but it does make him exceedingly more dangerous to the group. Now that Lori has offered Shane the brief hope that she might still be into him, who is to say he won't be a lot less likely to have Rick's back the next time they're surrounded by zombies? There's no better way to get away with murder than by letting the undead do it for you.
As much as I enjoyed this episode and the two that proceeded it, the pace for this season is maddeningly slow and it feels like the events are being needlessly padded out. Some of it is working very well, especially the Shane segments and the bonding between Daryl and the other survivors. However, I really want the search for Sophia to wrap up as soon as possible. At first it was a compelling angle, but it is definitely wearing out its welcome.

If you don't like that, don't read the books.
Most of the story is about "the walking dead", that is, the survivors. It's about their story, the psychological and sociological drama that ensues within the group over events aplenty. Can't just cut to the chase all the time. That's what made Breaking Bad a great show.

I know it is about the survivors. I'm actually glad they are not following the books here - makes it more interesting to see how they are going to twist things up a bit, but one difference from last season vs. this one is the slowness - IMO. The comic isn't anything like this....Shane was dead in the first two comics, Redneck Ninja aka Dayrl (whom I think is the most interesting) doesn't even exist.
I'm at this point on Team Shane....I know Rick is trying to do the right thing and respect Herschel's wishes...but keeping the walkers around was completely dangerous. Not to mention they had the girl all along, was he ever going to tell them?????

Yeah, I absolutely did not expect that. When I saw the view from the barn - indicating that there was obviously one more walker, I thought it would come out and bite someone.
But it explained Herschel's reluctance to kill the walkers - everyone now understood the situation that it's hard to kill one of them when it used to be one of your own, especially one of your own children. None of them wanted to do it.
Does make you wonder why he let them daily risk their lives to look for her when he knew all along.
Good episode, although two things came up - one was that the farm was only marginally aware of the devastation worldwide - they really only knew about it from TV, radio and a few walkers they'd seen. The other was more confusing - the statement that surrounding farms were already overrun. Tends to make me wonder just how it is they can live in the midst of all of it and live relatively safe.

It was said in a forum that having the walkers in the barn was keeping others away, IE if they are in the area there must not be any food. I didn't hear this myself, but I've heard more than one person say something to that effect...
If they are all dead, that might invited the hoardes on the outskirts to come in and hunt.

I read somewhere that during "Talking Dead" they adressed how Sophia ended up in the barn. As I read it, Otis found her and placed her in there prior to accidentaly shooting Carl. Supposedly Hersh didn't know she was in there.

A meager difference. They're out in the middle of no where. Sure, they'll get the occasional walker but nothing they can't handle.
In the books, eventually...the farm becomes too much for just Hershel and family to handle. They get over-run and decide to join up with Rick and crew.

I would guess that they knew, but only considered her 'sick' like the others and were afraid that if they told the Rick crew she was there that Rick et al would demand to stay longer, which Hershel didn't want at all.

Otis didn't do anything "wrong"... From what I've read this is how the story "supposedly" went...
After the accidental shooting he found the lil' Walker roaming free and did what they've done with the rest, put her in the barn. I think it was supposed to be timed so he didn't know about Sophia and he and Shane had already left for the high school...
It's been awhile since I've read through it... maybe they will do webisodes for Sophia (and explain what she went through before being place in the barn), like they did in the first season for the "bicycle girl", that'd keep people happy while waiting for the second season to pick up again.

yeah the old man gets on my nerves
[my friends tell me I am a bit Machiavellian in my outlook on life]
well he is gone now
[well I would have told Dale to STFU months ago, and capped what-his-name for poking my wife]

The old man was wise - opinioned, etc.... I liked him.
I was shocked that the same walker that kid (who is really changing) was tossing rocks at was the one who killed him. My #2 son watches this with me and we had a huge debate over whether or not the kid in the barn should be killed. He thinks they should just do it.... gave his reasons and I think not... gave my reasons.

IMHO Dale was dreaming for the old world ....
..... with no criminal justice, walkers everywhere ....... the bullies will FEED on the weak ....
he will bring his friends back ....
they should have left the kid to the walkers @ the state vehicle depot 2 weeks ago ........ or just cut his throat
now we will have to deal with Carl's emotional turmoil about having thrown rocks at 'that' walker .....
can we just get back to killing ####
I thought rick was spot on killing those 2 in the bar 3 weeks ago ..........
MAN up or eat a bullet ........... it is a Brave NEW World out there ..........

You were right.... Carl's emotional turmoil I got to the point where Carl was in the barn talking about it and dozed off. I will have to check and see if I missed anything after that tonight.

...the heartless ones are conservatives?
No,...I disagree: I liked Dale, he harkened back to LAW,...what helps to keep us civilized. When an enemy forces us to disregard what holds our humanity together, and we replace law & morality with whatever is expedient,...we become progressive. Thus,...Dale was a Libertarian, and a moralist.
He was a bit of a sage, a mentor, counselor--and I did like him.
aside from this,...why does everyone feel it is necessary to wander around in the dark?

A few shows ago didn't the characters say something about you can get the zombie disease from zombie blood splatter if you have an open wound??
I just love this stuff.

hmmmm...ok, we don't know what he whispered. He whispered it. Rick heard it but we couldn't hear it.
So, ok Dr. J could have whispered that the virus is airborne--- or that they are each already carriers of the virus/bug/thingie that causes one to become a zombie but don't become zombies unless they die, even if they die without having been bitten.
Have we been told what Dr. J really said or are we to speclate?

That was an unexpected freaky moment.
In the last couple of episodes, Shane had been acting even more aggressive, intent on killing Rick, the new guy tied up in the shed, and I think he would love to have offed Dale. So I wonder if Shane was just naturally going off the deep end because of prego Lori and the fact that he wanted to be in charge of the group, or did he have this zombie bug and it was causing him to become more aggressive.

CDC/Dr. J convo...
Speculation subsists that Jenner's last words to Rick, inaudible, were to inform him of the nature of the virus. This will be confirmed in the final episode of season two.
The bulk of the whisper is audible on the S1 bluray, if you significantly increase the center channel (see Talk:Edwin Jenner) to isolate the dialog. The first two sentences are "It's in your blood. We're all carriers."

I was really thinking that they were going to kill off Andrea. I'm glad she's still alive. I have the entire comic run but have held off reading ahead so it doesn’t spoil the series for me.

I said the exact same thing, but eventually caved in. I am not disappointed in the least. The show will never run as dark as the comic, there is just no way to keep a fan base apart from the zombiefreaks...
Now I find it interesting to see the delta between the series and the graphic novels. It also makes it exciting when things like Michonne and the prison are revealed...
