Anyone have any luck finding a local dr who can treat TMJ? I've been using a NTI appliance, but pain is getting unbearable. Or has anyone had any luck with Physical therapy for the TMJ?

My chiropractor has helped more than anything. No doctors in this area that I know of. A co-workers daughter had surgery for it years ago, and she was seeing a specialist in northern VA.

i need to find a specialist who bills with medical codes rather than dental as my dental insurance will not cover treatment. maybe a ear nose throat dr? my issue is the joint cartlidge in my jaw. I dont think any of the orthopaedic drs. @ here work with jaw joint problems..............

: ( been covering my jaw with ben gay every night just so i can sleep...

Yeah, most insurances don't cover dentists treating TMJ. Makes no sense to me, but that is the way it is. My jaw joint has deteriorated, and I use a mouth piece at night, and my chiropractor adjusts the joint when I have flair ups. It is amazing how much it helps, and very quickly too.

Good Luck, I hope you find someone who can help you!!

I agree- go see an ears/nose/throat dr. I went for my sinus and he did a complete exam and diagnosed TMJ. My Phy Therapist (for shoulder because I'm falling apart) does TMJ therapy. Gateau Physical Therapy is where I go (on RT 235 just south of the Toyota dealer) .
