In fact it starts to impact your family, because now you're looking at two whole days in jail.

Two days in jail is a tough thing to explain to explain to children that are used to having their parents around growing weed or cooking meth in the basement, especially during the holiday season; that's why State's Attorney Richard Fritz and the Saint Mary's County Sheriff's Department sponsor the "Fritzmas with a Cop" program from December 1st to January 5th of each year.

Fritz claims the program has been a stunning success because it lessens the trauma of the parent being in jail for two days on the children and the Sheriff's Department credits the program with improving community relations and proving to the child that their parent didn't suffer a bit during the whole arrest process.

It really is a great thing for the children of these hoodlums because there's nothing more thrilling when you're a kid than to have a cop car coming roaring up to your house with multi-color lights swirling and sirens blazing to pick up you instead of your Dad. In fact it even makes the arrest of your parent look like a mistake, because you're not in handcuffs and get to sit in the front seat. For all the neighbors know, the cops are taking you to the hospital to see your injured parent. Your friends will all be watching in awe and you get to lie about what happened to your Dad or Mom.

And then off you go, roaring away to Wal*Mart to go shopping for any item up to $20. Just imagine running wildly up and down the toy aisles with your dread-locks flowing in the wind and your own personal police escort. Being a kid has never been so good!

While "Fritzmas with a Cop" just can't compare to the usual toys a drug dealer buys their children such as mini-motor-bikes and ATV's; "it's the thought that counts," says State's Attorney Richard Fritz.

But now the "Fritzmas with a Cop" program is jeopardy as the holiday season approaches, and Richard Fritz wants you to know that. In case you missed it, Fritz has told the Emptyprize that if John Mattingly gets elected drug dealers and other miscreants will get much tougher sentences and have to spend incredible amounts of time away from their families in the future. Most people would think that was a good thing for their children, but Fritz doesn't see it that way, and wants you to know that.

So just remember as you go to the polls this November that a vote for Mattingly is a vote against the "Fritzmas with a Cop" program.

He's been busted (at the same residence) for manufacturing over 100 marijuana plants and numerous traffic infractions and now this. When is the court system going to take care of this punk? Wow. I think its time we had a State's Attorney who is more concerned about what goes on our neighborhoods, and the effect his decisions have on the people who live in them. What would have happened if Newland's meth lab had exploded? What kind of people does that sort of activity bring into our neighbborhoods? Especially those in a school zone.
Fritz had the perfect opportunity to get Newland off the street when he was caught growing the 100 pot plants with a firearm in the house. Manufacturing controlled substances usually carries a pretty stiff penalty.
Instead Fritz let him off with 2 days in jail so that Newland could go home and open a meth lab.
I'll bet that if it wasn't close to election time Newland would still be home cooking his poison to sell to our children.
I wonder why the local police would support a man like Richard Fritz who rewards their hard work of investigating and arresting Drug Dealers only to see them released with little or no penalty? What a waste of time and taxpayer money.
