What are those? Might I be wearing Mom jeans, which is a presumably bad thing, and not know it? I mean, I *am* a Mom, so doesn't that mean that any jeans I wear are technically Mom jeans?
I complimented a friend on her cute jeans the other day and she told me that her daughter informed her they were "old lady" jeans. But I thought they were cute and very flattering on her. So apparently I have an affinity for Mom jeans.
Are Mom jeans, like, ones with applique and crap all over them? Or have back pockets shaped like a butterfly?

I thought mom jeans would be the ones with the elastic waist band, oh wait, maybe those are granny jeans.

Little off topic but one day I was in the grocery store and this elderly woman (she was in her 70s easily) was there wearing a pair of shorts and a sports bra (pretty much the norm for the walkers in the neighborhood) but when she turned around I had to laugh, on the back of her shorts across her butt were the words "hot stuff".

"jeans highlighting the flat curvature of the 40+ buttocks upside-down-heart shaped-butt. Commonly seen accompained with front butt. Extremely high waist, and always a crappy shade of blue or black. Usually found in Kohl's or Mervyn's."

I guess I'm bitter. I haven't worn jeans in months. I usually wear shorts or capris. It's just too warm here to wear jeans, especially since the only shoes I wear are flip flops and I won't wear jeans with flip flops. I won't even take my trunk full of jeans out of the closet until maybe January.

Back in the dark ages when I was in college, I had this one particular pair of jeans that fit absolutely perfectly and were oh-so-comfortable -- you know the kind I mean. So, of course, I wore them a lot! One day, the inevitable happened and I got a small tear on the back, right below the pocket. Not wanting to give up my favoritest (ok, lay off grammar nazis -- it's my word and I like it!) pair of jeans, I hit up the local stores and stocked up on embroidered patches. By the time I finally gave up on that pair of jeans I had a butterfly, a tiger, an apple and I don't even remember what all else scattered all over the backside of those jeans. It got to the point that the material was just too thin to sew anything to any more.
I still miss that pair of jeans.... :bawl:

Maybe this would be easier: what jeans *aren't* Mom jeans? Like, what should I be wearing instead? Keep in mind that I'm almost 47 years old and prefer to dress for that age bracket - no juniors styles, please.

I don't wear juniors styles either. After 30 it's a little silly. For women into their 40s and over I think NY & Company has really good jeans. My "work mom" wears ones similar to these and she's well into her 50s and I think they look really nice and modern without being too young.

I think my jean preference is tipping towards the "mom jeans". I am so sick of buying jeans that I am always hiking up so my butt crack isn't getting a breeze, or having to worry about my underwear hanging out. And maybe it is just me but I think old broads wearing jeans that only young girls should wear is tacky and horrid. There is nothing worse than seeing a 45 year old woman in an Aeropostal shirt and low riders. I don't care what shape she is in, it just looks silly.

I have several pairs of NY and co jeans, and don't wear them too often because the rise is pretty hig and I am short waisted so it looks silly on me. I think they are a great alternative to Mom jeans though..stylish but covered and not junior. Their "low rise" is only low in comparison to younger jeans..they go aboutt o my belly button, but on a "normal" waisted person would probably sit a bit below.

I fudged that up. It's not vanity sizing, it's the reverse. I wear a size 6, so I shouldn't have to try to squeeze into a pair of size 10 jeans. Don't get me wrong, if I wore a size 10 I'd own it and wear the hell out of them. But I don't, so it's confusing when I'm shopping.

You sound like my wife this past weekend. Oh and FYI, those little Cambodian kids can't read a tape measure well enough to tell the difference between a 32 inseam and a 30 inseam on men's jeans.

Just did a check of the jeans I posted earlier that I wear and check check check. Yet you all said those were Mom jeans. :ohwell:
if you had posted a picture of you wearing them .... the catalog pic looked like high waist jeans

This is the blue jeans I wears, and it is not a Mom Jeans:
Petite Sun-Faded Wash Original Boot : Women's Petite Jeans & Denim: LOFT (http://www.anntaylorloft.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=28299&N=1200036&categoryId=222&pCategoryId=3360&Ns=CATEGORY_SEQ_222&Nty=1&No=15&loc=TN&defaultColor=Sun-Faded%20Wash&defaultSizeType=Petite)
I have quite a few blue jeans from Ann Taylor Loft.

I think I just need less ass. :ohwell: But even if I had no butt I'd still not wear low rise anymore. Viva La' Mom Jeans! :yahoo:
I found the perfect solution for you!!!! Victoria's Secret make a no peek jean, low rise in the front and higher in the back so your butt won't peek out! I was looking through the catalog this weekend and when I saw them I thought of you.

I tried them. Hate them. They're hip-hugger type pants and that doesn't work for me.

Are they well made? I heard they fall apart, the metal grommets come off.

I'd say their average made. I haven't really worn them because they are so uncomfortable to me.

I skimmed post by post thinking... wow, almost to the last page and nobody has mentioned pajama jeans yet... then bam... you mentioned them. I really laughed when I saw the commercial for the 1st time... and thought they have got to look beyond ridiculous in person.

I really don't consider those jeans. More like denim stretch pants for the "People of Walmart" site
:yay: Same here. I'm not into the butt-crack low rise look. If that makes them mom jeans, so be it. I have a couple of friends who are always trying to dress that way and it looks really ridiculous at their age, even though they are in shape, etc. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!
