Who, besides Metrocast, offers high speed internet access for home use? I am tired of Metrocast and looking to change. Suggestions?

Verizon is good, had some problems a couple of times but the out sourced customer tech support in India fixed the issues. Must be very cheap labor, I have verizon wireless DSL.

I've had highspeed Metrocast for years. Never had a problem with them. It's expensive but worth it.

Just wish we could get something faster than Metrocast's 7meg package!
I remember when they went form 14.4 to 28.8 thinking "Wow"

I was just thinking that same thing. When I took over the COMM section where I worked back in the early '80s, standard was 300 BAUD, and only the executives got 1200 BAUD on an acoustic modem.

It was painful, but we didn't know any better. That was state-of-the-art.

My Metrocast Cable internet has worked great in our home, Pushing 2 computers, 1 laptop, and Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Nintendo DS, and Vonage VOIP phone with zero issues on a wireless N network!
LOL, I guess you had to be part of the 14.4 and 28.8Kb age group to really appreciate it!
DSL and FIOS not offered in our area so no other comparisons although I would probably have went with FIOS if available!

All depends on where you live. Basically it boils down to signal strength, noise and how many houses share your trunk line.
When we had cable it was a combination of the signal strength and noise. We were at the end of a long dead end. By the time the signal reached our house we were seeing dropouts. The same for noise. When it rained the SMECO wires almost glowed so all that RF would pollute the cable feed cause a lot of retries.
We didn't have the problem, but friends did, where they would see their service drop off around 5 and into the evening. Basically when people got home and hit the internet they were trying to share the pipe with their neighbors.

You pretty much have to choose between Metrocast and Verizon DSL. I've had both and while DSL is slower, it's much more reliable than cable (at the places I've lived here in the county anyway). Metrocast seems to have a lot of on-and-off problems. I can go for weeks/months with no issues then all of a sudden I'll start having connectivity problems that can last for days. Using OpenDNS helped resolve some of those problems but still, it's nowhere near as rock solid as DSL. If I had a choice I would go with DSL but unfortunately I live down in Great Mills where the signal is so poor that you will be lucky if you can stay connected long enough to be able to read a single email.
