Candidate Forum

Thomas F. McKay, Commissioner President Candidate, Declares Accurate Forum Information Thomas F. McKay, Candidate for County Commissioner President, joined the additional nine candidates for County Commissioner in a public forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters last evening at Leonardtown High School. During the forum his opponent, Jack Russell, repeated his incorrect claim that spending during the McKay term (2002-2006) increased 42% while spending during the Russell term increased 14%.

Mr. McKay stated, “Mr. Russell remains either woefully uniformed or willfully deceptive when it comes to government spending and taxes. However, when you use tax dollars to purchase a $5 million property valued at just $3 million, it is probably a good idea to hope that the public will be confused by the numbers”.

At Monday night’s forum Mr. Russell erroneously included $20 million that was set aside to reduce the county’s debt and $1.5 million that was set aside for a rainy day fund during the McKay term in his 42% number. These funds were not expenditures, but rather saved the county taxpayers nearly $35 million in interest and principal payments.

Mr. Russell also fails to tell the citizens that his Board created a separate spending unit, called “the Solid Waste Fund”, which spends more than $4 million each year, including a new tax they created to help fund the spending. When you include only those dollars actually spent on reoccurring expenditures, Russell’s four year expenditures were $766,151,681 compared to McKay’s which were $591,378,553. The facts are, Russell increased spending by 29.55% and increased property taxes by 55% during his four year term.

“Mr. Russell can continue to manipulate the numbers but the residents of St. Mary’s County are certainly capable of looking at the true numbers and making up their own minds,” stated McKay.

The good old boy system still works in St. Mary's
Phony money charges shelved (http://www.somdnews.com/stories/080406/entetop175045_32082.shtml)

:bs:"The agreement placing the changes on an inactive docket calls for Hollywood residents Eric Thomas McKay, 20, and Larry Wayne Adkins Jr., 21, to perform an unspecified number of hours of community service, authorities said before the afternoon’s court proceedings began." So how many hours did they get?:bs:

"Carroll pleaded guilty in April to possessing counterfeit currency during the roadside police search in Park Hall, and to later distributing cocaine to a police informant in Park Hall. He was sentenced last month to serve six years in prison for the felony drug offense, and a concurrent 18-month prison sentence for possessing an image of U.S. currency with the intent to defraud."

So one guy gets 18 months in jail for money MaKay and Adkins Printed and they get nothing.

:blahblah: ‘‘It was about Eric McKay being guilty only of having the last name McKay,” defense lawyer Thomas McManus said :bs: It was ALL ABOUT BEING LUCKY TO HAVE THE LAST NAME McKay.

Carroll got six for the coke, and 18 months for the having the funny money.

The politically connected guys got community service for making the funny money.

That'd be like giving a meth user 18 months for possesion, then giving the guy who cooked the meth community service.

Life as a McKay must be sweet. Laws? I can get around those! And at campaign time, I can use the reverse 911 to get my name out there! Sweet!

I graduated with Eric McKay, was a total piece of ... Keyed his own car to get insurance to pay for a new paint job kinda guy (he actually did that)... He cheated on his girlfriend with his step sister...

Screwing up so royally as a father has got to be a reflection on his personal integrity and ability to judge/handle situations, wouldn't you think...:bubble:

Not to mention that he held onto the counterfeit money in a safe and did not turn it over to the authorities until it came out that he had taken it from his kid. I wish I could quote this but I read it in the Enterprise when the whole thing became public.

Looks like Dad taught him how to follow in his footsteps!

Lets not forget about thel arge amount his of dads Money that went missing.
Lets not forget about his constant cheating on his wife, and his live in girlfriends.
He was dragged into court by the husband of his girlfriend for breaking up their marriage.
Tommy Mckay is a child of privledge, not a man of character.
