Brown sentenced to term in prison

Judge says state's attorney candidate John Mattingly
also tried to cheat people in real-estate dealings

A two-year investigation of real-estate fraud and witness tampering
resulted this week in a prison sentence for Daniel Jason Brown,
and a judge's rebuke of state's attorney candidate John Mattingly

"I frankly don't think you were the instigator in any of these things,
but you played a major role," Judge Wallace said, and he barred Brown
from having any contact with John Mattingly after Brown is
released from custody and begins five years of supervised probation.

"The two of you together (Mattingly & Brown)
did operate your business corruptly,"
Judge Wallace said, "in an effort to cheat other people."

Renee Joy, assistant Prince George's prosecutor, spoke of Brown's conduct.
"His work ethic was proven to be shortcuts and scamming innocent people
to line his own pockets," Joy said. "He thinks that he's above the law."

In the home-improvement case, Joy said, "Mr. Brown was showing the
epitome of greed. He was taking advantage of an elderly woman who was
an amputee and had recently lost her husband."

John Mattingly's business partner was convicted of a notary violation
and offered a plea to charges of witness tampering.
When the judge sentenced that business partner, Daniel Jason Brown,
to prison last week, he said,
"The two of you together did operate your business corruptly
in an effort to cheat other people."

John Mattingly has not made his case that he would be a good replacement
for Fritz, who is a seasoned, committed prosecutor.

I had heard about the Orlandus Brooks story before. After the family agreed to stop asking for an investigation the trumped up charges were dropped.
The only thing Orlndua was charged with was reckless endangerment, and thos charges were never prosecuted by Richard Fritz.

I do trust our justice system and I believe if Mattingly was guilty of a crime he would have been found guilty. He wasn't.

I also believe the timing of the charges against Mattingly are simply too coincidental for them to be anything other than a political attack.

I have done a lot of research on this case and if you look at the FACTs you can plainly see this is a politically motivated attack.

BTW, My research on Mr. Mattingly started in 2007, maybe you should continue to research a neutral source instead of just Mattingly's. 1) I haven't called fritz a rapist, you are confusing me with clem shady and other people on this board.

2) Fritz was not found INNOCENT of rape. My understanding is he PLEAD GUILTY to a lesser crime. He was sentenced over 1 year to jail and that sentence was suspended. If he was innocent, he would not have plead guilty.

3) The criticism you lay against me for being one sided can be applied to you and the other pro fritz people on this board.

I believe Mattingly was falsely accused and I believe the courts proved this.

I'll give you that much, let's just see the outcome and remember it's God's destiny. Daniel Brown (Mattingly's business partner) claimed he was innocent and still does behind prison bars; so let's just see how this plays out.

Ask Mattingly why he referred his client to Daniel Brown to renovate her home when John knew he didn't have a business license and after Daniel walked away from this elderly handicapped woman that John represented in an accident case without finishing her repairs, why he still stands beside him and claims Daniel did nothing wrong and got caught up in a political war. This is the man you want to represent our County?

I would say the information on Mattingly's site isn't 100% accurate, the MJCS (http://casesearch.courts.state.md.us/inquiry/inquiry-index.jsp) clearly shows that Watson was found guilty of Murder-Second Degree. And what about the other murder trial held in 2009? Why no mention of it? Granted the murder didn't occur in the past two years but the trial did (began Jan 2009, Case Number: 18K06000279 ) and the defendant received a life sentence.

Apparently, there are several unsolved murders in St. Mary's. I recall Ken Rossignol publishing something about a black, allegedly gay, student being killed in/around Leonardtown High School (apparently because he was gay, and no doubt black gave the killer some extra motivation). It was quite a way back -- perhaps 70's or 80's.

According to Rossignol, if memory serves me well, there was a grand jury and a young white male was testifying, His mother, who was the clerk for another powerful judge in St. Mary's, reportedly walked right into the court room and dragged her son off the stand and out of the court. Does not sound incredibly unbelievable based on things I witnessed around here since I moved in 1983.

Anyone remember this case and/or have any more details? For some reason, it constantly sticks in my mind.

P.S. When Sheriff Coffey took office in Charles Co, one of the first things he did was command the detectives to reopen unsolved murders and get them solved. This is why the Madder case was finally closed.
