My SIL's OB/GYN INSISTED that she have all the screenings done and all kinds of crap came back, and she was a mess for the last 3 months of her 2nd pregnancy. Guess what? She had another perfectly healthy baby girl.

My friend is expecting and her doctor told her that her baby had downs and she sent her to Annapolis. Well, She went there and took a test and she came back as negative for downs. Good luck.

My understanding is that those tests are somewhat subjective because of the inaccuracy of when you actually got pregnant. The levels can be off a tad for what drs. are matching to the data.

My 20 week came back with a soft marker as well...I too had refused the triple test...seems that a lot of early sonograms come back with EIF as a common soft marker...and it tends to go away around 30 weeks. Not sure if that is what yours is/was but positive thoughts your way anyhow!

It was EIF.

It was EIF.

We were given two choices...to wait a few weeks and get it redone or get a Level II at U of M. Was around 26 weeks when I had it redone...and the doctor said everything was fine on this one. It wouldn't have made a bit of difference...but you can't help but to stress and worry:/

:huggy: Can see about getting a follow up test later on, those things are pretty inaccurate. Imagine the thinking behind them is better a false positive than a false negative. I'm pretty sure I'd go crazy... I wouldn't love her any less, but I'd definitely want to know in advance so I can be better prepared!

My marker came up as "reasonably certain" that I was carrying a baby with Downs, I think at the 13-20 week timeframe. After going through genetic counseling, I agreed to an amnio, where it was determined that Baby Bubba was fine. But the few weeks between finding out about the "reasonably certain" diagnosis, and the "all clear" was incredibly intense and emotionally draining. Of course, with my, ummmm, advanced maternal age, there *was* reason to suspect that something could go wrong; thankfully, it didn't.

:huggy: Try not to worry too much. It looks like several others have been in your shoes with perfectly normal results. Good Luck!

LT, please do not spend your pregnancy worried, sad or stressed. If your baby has Downs or any other problem, there's nothing you can do about it, and the odds are highly in your favor to have a healthy normal child. So unless you would abort in the event of defect, there's no sense in even thinking about it.

I felt the same way when I was pregnant. I certainly wouldn't have terminated the pregnancy if my son was to be born with Downs, however I would want to know in order to better prepare ourselves.

My best friend was told that her son was going to be born with Downs, without a doubt. He came out perfectly healthy, no Downs whatsoever. Hate these tests, they're just not reliable and often cause unecessary stress.

It's hard to tell someone not to stress and worry, because we all do to some extent. But being as informed as you possibly can will help you, I'm sure. From the sounds of others' experiences your little one will be fine!

Good thoughts and prayers going your way!! :huggy:

I know quite a few people that have markers show up in their sonos. Babies are happy and healthy. We were told on Christams Eve last year we tested positive for Downs. A 1 in 16 chance. Genetics counselor kept pusing for an Amneo we said no way. Today we have a gorgeous, happy healthy baby girl. I spent most of my pregnancy so worried and I shouldn't have. It is hard but just know that even w markers showing it's not a definite.
