View Full Version : My kitty ran away

He got mad at us because he knew we were leaving town for Thanksgiving. He apparently snuck out while we were packing the car because when we came back he was gone.

He hates the outdoors, only occasionally sneaking out when a door is left open only to come crying to be let in five minutes later. Only this time, no one was around to let him back in.

He's no where around the house or nearby woods or we'd have seen him by now. No evidence that he was hit by a car. He's microchipped, so he's not been picked up by animal control or they would have called (just in case, I called them to make sure)... so basically, he's adopted himself a new family. Now the trick is to figure out which one. How far did he have to go to find someone to let him inside? I put up a couple of flyers, but I'm going to have to go door to door in the neighborhood and the other nearby houses. :banghead:

Sorry. Poor taste on my part.

We had one cat that would take off on walk about once in awhile. He'd be gone for days and always came back.

Check sheds, garages, etc. Daughter's kitty disappeared before the first blizzard last year..apparently sought refuge in neighbor's garage and got shut in. They figured she didn't make it. As soon as people started digging out, home she ran!

We had a cat that for a few years would spend the winter at a neighbor's house. He was an indoor/outdoor cat and they'd let him in and keep him in in the winter and come spring they'd let him out and he'd come home. After a couple of years, they realized it was our cat they didn't keep him shut in all winter.

This cat that's missing is such a people-oriented cat, I have no doubt he found some people to take care of him.

I have three slightly used cats for sale, reasonable price, easy, long term financing. You can just never tell anyone where you got them.

Put out a plate of his favorite food. He'll come back, hopefully when you're around. If another cat eats it first, there's your new kitty.

Did that already. Two cans, one in front of the house, one in back. After 2 days one can is untouched and the other....well, although I didn't see the new "kitty" I suspect it looks something like one of these:

Front can still untouched. Back can is now MIA. It was on the back porch at 4:45. Gone at 8:15.

OK..so somewhere in the world your cat escaped.
How about fine tuning your post to give MORE details..
Like WHERE..and be specific if you would...
And if you post pics of opossums and raccoons, how about posting a photo of your cat so IF someone sees her they can contact you.

Thank you.

Thank you.Because it's highly unlikely that anyone here has him. If someone here HAS found a cat in the last week and taken him into their home and they saw this thread, they'd have mentioned it by now.

I know this cat, he is 1. Dead already or 2. moved into someone else's house. If it's not option 1 or 2, he would be sitting outside my door crying a pitiful little cry begging to come in. He's too spoiled for anything else.

But...he's orange with white on his chest and paws, about 12 lbs and in Northern Mechanicsville.

No, the B&W one is a stray. If it's the one I think it is, it's the mother of these guys: http://forums.somd.com/cats/208483-who-wants-kitten.html and probably older sister to these guys: http://forums.somd.com/cats/185536-gonna-try-catch-stray.html

As a rule, our cats don't go out. When they do, they run right back in if they think they might be forced to actually stay out more than 5 minutes. In fact, the one that's missing got out a few months ago by accident. Huntr forgot that one of the window screens was busted and he opened the window. The cat was sitting on the sill and sometime during the night, fell out the window. It was only an 18-in drop, so he wasn't hurt, but you should have heard his pitiful cries to get back in.

HE'S BEEN SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!

Heard a cat meowing on the front porch. It ran when Dymphna opened the door. She sent me to the side door. I grabbed a big honkin mag light on the way. Looked all over the driveway. Saw nothing. Was about to go back in when I heard another meow. Shined the light up into the neighbor's yard just in time to see a flash of orange cat fur as he ran along the base of their above ground pool.

The side door is now sitting open with a can of smelly wet food sitting just inside the door. Hopefully he comes home.

When Marlin reaches over out of the boat and grabs the Anaconda that is really something like 70 feet long and he starts wrestling with it and falls out of the boat only to get wrapped up in its coils and Jim chimes in with his expert commentary "The snakes got Marlin!"

Cat ate 1/2 of it when we were out for a Girl Scout meeting.
I guess we have an outdoor cat now. Gonna keep feeding him and hope he comes home.
Maybe he'll move back in if we get a lot of snow. Or maybe next spring boy can sit out in the backyard and hope his cat comes to him for some pets.

Are you sure it's him eating it? Cover the trap with a blanket or something and put something REALLY smelly in it..sardines or tuna..but do it in the early evening...

This morning, kitty was on the front porch crying so pathetically, I thought he was caught in the trap. I got out of bed and went to the window, to see him run down the steps and out into the yard. He had been crying because the only food out there was in the trap, and he's not going in there.

Huntr scolded me. Told me not to go near the window until the cat had been crying at least 10 minutes because otherwise I'd scare him away again.

Kitty is out there now. He's crying. I am sitting where I can see the trap. I thought it was tripped, but turns out it's just a shadow that makes it look that way. But I went to the window before I realized it wasn't tripped. He was sitting there pathetically staring at me, crying.

He's being such a PITA. You would think that he was somehow being kept away instead of refusing to return on his own.

He slept in our bed off and on...and off...and on...during the night. He's been following me around all over the place this morning...You'd think he'd been suffering from amnesia and suddenly got his memory back.

He's a lot skinnier than he used to be. Not malnourished or anything, just leaner. The kitten looks huge in comparison, although kitten has the added fluff of being a long haired cat. I think kitten would still lose in a fight, but so far they have just been growling a bit and dancing around each other. They have yet to get into an all-out challenge.

He's def. happy to be home. He's VERY vocal about it. Want's LOTS of attention.
As soon as I got up this morning, he was meowing for pets. Went into the bathroom with me, then instead of immediately running out as I tried to shut the door like he used too, he just curled up on the floor in the closet and watched me do my morning abulations and then when I left the bathroom, back on the bed he went.
