Very stupid person backed out of his drive very fast and pulled into the road. Well not quite, Mr. A's truck stopped him from getting very far into traffic. What a moron. All he had to do was 'YIELD'!
Anyway he hit the truck so hard that he knocked the drive train(?) out of the transmission, knocked the bed to the left, not to mention the entire side panel is now under the bed.
So his baby, which he's had since '98, has been deemed totalled. We are now looking at more personal debt because of this a-hole and some stupid MD law that says if the vehicle repair is more than 75% of it's value it has to be turned over to salvage.

We've been there with that so know what you mean! Hope Mr. A is okay -- I don't believe that we're at the point where we turn people over to salvage but hey, I could have missed something that the Obama White House has slid in with healthcare!

Cars can be replaced. People cannot. Stupid will always be with us -- take a deep breath & try to tolerate it. After all, if we didn't have any stupid people around, how would the rest of us know that we're so smart? :coffee:

If you think you can fix it you can opt to buy it back as salvage. We did that on a car two years ago the iinsurance settled for 2500.00 we bought the car back for 300.00 and for just
a few hundred we fixed in and had it back on the road.

We thought about that but we have till tomorrow to get it to the yard and he's on travel. The tranny's damaged, the frame is bent, plus all the cosmetic work - the side panel, cab frame and passenger door. The guy really hit him hard. Looking at a lot of $$$, to bring it back. It'll cost us about 1K to get it out of salvage, plus a title search (on our own car). plus it has to be completed within 60 days, and that includes the police inspection....
Just a royal PITA all around. I suggested he take the reimbursement and use it as a down payment on a newer used vehicle. At least we'd be looking at less cost.

Mr A seems to be okay but I'll keep an eye on him, especially his back and neck.

I don't think so ... unless this was in the last yr or so .... Mom's 88 voyager was "Totaled" out by the Insurance Company ... minus the deductible State Farm, cut her a check and we kept the VAN which I repaired and still had money left over ... and the insurance never lapsed either ...
