Put a new exhaust system with high-flow cat on a Miata yesterday. Sold the stock catback system but still have the cat that came off the car. Is there any value to this? Is there a proper way to dispose of it?

Most styles used a platinum catalyst so it should have some value at a metal recycler.

Thieves used to cut catalytic converters off cars in parking lots, so yeah, I think it has value....

Yes.

Set it at the end of the driveway with a sign "Cat Converter $400"

It will be gone by dawn.

pm me, I may have a need for it. I just bought a 91 Miata and will take delivery next week. Status of exhaust is not known.

Thanks,

Scott

You drive a Miata, and you talk about it openly?

The handling and performance of these cars is so awesome it's easy to just laugh at the "Miatas are ghey" jokes

Actually we have four of them here. They're fantastic little cars.

Hell, some Charger folks who have gutted thier cats have sold the chunks on Ebay. So, yeah, not a problem. Thats ben my only issue with the Miata. They followed the British of just the right amount of power too closely for me.Add about 50-75hp, and I agree, perfect cars.

My son is selling his car either as a project car or for parts ( it won't start and he doesn't have time to fix it ) should he sell the catalytic converter separately ? We knew that individuals can no longer sell them to the scrap yards because of all the thefts but didn't think to sell it to an individual . Thanks for any advice.

Hmm, what kind of car is it? And I wouldn't sell it separately, they are not worth that much, I dont think.

Just as an FYI - it's illegal to buy and sell used catalytic converters EXCEPT for scrap. You can't put one on a car.
