Can you believe a paid telemarketer for the "Fraternal Order of Police" just called a few minutes ago asking me for a donation?

Welcome to Maryland. And they'll call again in six months beginning with "We appreciate the help you gave us last time we called." Been going on for over four years now.

You do realize that if they are not in fact an actual employee of the charity that you can demand that they place you on their "do not call list," right?
And if you're on the Federal Gov's "Do Not Call List" and they call again after you have notified them of what I said above, you can legally report them for violating telemarketing laws.

They called our house about a onth ago.I told the man I didn't make contributions over the phone, and asked him if he would mail us some literature.
He hung on on me.
The caller ID said the call came from the Norfolk, VA area
After we discussed the fact that he was a telemarketer and not a member of the actual FOP charity, and after I advised him about my "do not call rights," I then told him that I'm a disturbed veteran who reacts very badly to phone calls.

Heck, they call my house every flippin night and every flippin night I continue to pick the phone up on the first ring and immediately hang up.... Sometimes I get even and let them go through their, "We appreciate your generous dontation last year and were hoping we can count on your support again this year", before hanging up or politely saying no thank you.
I made the mistake of donating $50 once then at tax time realized that my donation wasn't tax deductible. I stopped donating because of that. Good gracious- they are already getting a portion of my state taxes- here I go donating and can't even write that off.

And you can tell them that again in six months, just like I do every time they call.
I don't talk, I file complaints.
There's no brotherhoodly love here.

There's one charity called "The Police Protection Fund."
That one pays their director like $155,000 per year.
It's based in Florida of course. And multiple State Attorney General's, other than Maryland, have went after them.

What does this have to do with MD? The F.O.P. is a natioanl org. They do this across the country.

I guess we have to explain to you that they have chapters of their organization all over the state.
One of them is in Great Mills and runs a PAC (Political Action Committee) that attempts to influence the outcome of local elections.

No need to explain. I already knew that.
