What is it that causes raised itchy welts? About 4-6" long average.....
Fleas leave little red bites. THESE things; the 4-6" raised itchy welts, I've seen before; but can't remember what causes them.

Well.....hives are like a rash. THESE things are like a parasite (ie: flea) burrowed under the skin and they have forged a path.

There are what amounts to two straight lines about 4-5" long.....or whatever I said before; one on the left side; about kidney level and the same on the right side.

Okay......OW! Seriously? INJECTING bleach? I've never heard of doing that.

What about simply applying alcohol, say, after a hot shower; or I've even heard using Listerine.

THAT'S the one I couldn't think of.....chiggers.

I've had them bite me many times and now is the time of the year they start emerging in droves. Ugh.

The best thing I've found for itch relief is a combo: take an antihistamine like Benadryl, then soak in a bath infused with Aveeno Soothing Bath Treatment (with collodial oatmeal), and finally dry off and apply a hydrocortisone cream over the bites.

That is true.

Old myth about putting fingernail polish on them to suffocate them.

They actually bite you fall off and die.
The itch is from the saliva that was left behind.

Chiggers do not burrow in skin.

Correct. They're like mosquitoes in they pierce the skin and inject something into your skin (enzymes) that causes the itch but unlike ticks or other creatures do not permanently attachment themselves or burrow under the skin.

No, they don't "hurt." They ITCH LIKE A MUTHA!

I used to get them quite often as a child playing outside all day when spring "sprung." They usually coincided with the pollen outbreak. Pollen kicks my a** every year, so I'm guessing these things are somehow associated with the onset of spring.

Correct. They're like mosquitoes in they pierce the skin and inject something into your skin (enzymes) that causes the itch but unlike ticks or other creatures do not permanently attachment themselves or burrow under the skin.

I know the science behind skeeter bites. When they bite they inject a numbing agent/anti-coagulant so they can feed. THAT is what triggers the histimine effect and the itching and swelling. The reason you feel them when they "bite" is because of their stingers with which they feed......liiiiitle tiny needlez.

I get that on my legs from the greenbriar in the woods around my house. I don't know if it comes in contact with poison ivy, then I get scratched, but it looks like a long line of a poison ivy bllister.

try cool compresses, (or shower) to calm the reaction down, medicated powder and benedryl pills. Then go to bed and sleep it off. If it's an antihistamine reaction, that might help. If it doesn't get better after a few days, see a doc. :flowers:

The mosaic form of the tobbaco plant virus seemed to have started earlier this year due to the mild winter we had.
If untreated, it can cause infertility, impotence and dementia.

Nope that's a myth I heard.

"Myths About Chiggers
One of the biggest myths or misconceptions about chiggers is that they can burrow under your skin and drink your blood. This leads to the common treatment for chiggers of putting clear nail polish on chigger bites to suffocate the chiggers. Since chiggers don't actually burrow under your skin, this 'treatment' is unnecessary. "

I know this, but they have appeared in MORE than one spot on some people. The area she describes, is the most common area to show up, but they can also spread to the eyes, depending on the severity of the case. I didn't say they WERE Shingles, I just mentioned the possibility.

Maybe Benadryl, huh?
It's just weird.....two tracks.....one on the left side; one on the right side; right around kidney level; not all the way around my waist.

At first I thought it was because of the elastic in my sweatpants that I wear at night. I wear them kinda "hiked up" so I don't trip over them, cuz they're a tad long. So, I wore shorts for a while. Didn't help. THEN I thought "fleas" but I don't have pets anymore; but these tracks still haven't gone away.
Ah well.....I'll call the Doc.
