There's one or more cats that have been spraying by the corner of my garage. It stinks. Has anyone used or had any luck with an outdoor repellent? I saw some stuff at Lowes, but it was just common ingredients like peppermint oil and it cost a fortune.

I'm not sure about actual cat repellants, but we have a Motion Activated Scarecrow (http://www.amazon.com/Contech-Electronics-CRO101-Scarecrow-Motion-Activated/dp/B000071NUS) we put by our pond to keep the birds from eating out koi. Perhaps you could set one up for a week or so at that corner and if it works, they'll remember and avoid that area  It's quite pricey to just scare a cat though..

You might try a motion activated lawn sprinkler. I can't remember where I saw them but you should be able to find one online.

Let me know. Have the same problem. We tried a product from Petco. Supposed to be wolf pee, (scares them off?). Quite expensive and you have to reapply often. Cost about $13. It worked, but not for long.

Did some searching on the Interwebz. Seems essential oils are used to make repellants, like citrus, peppermint, eucalyptus, etc... Found this recipe and think I'll give it a try. Fraction of the cost of the pre-made stuff.

How to Make Homemade Cat Repellent - wikiHow (http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Homemade-Cat-Repellent)

Now I just have to find someone local that sells essential oils. Shouldn't be too tough.

or a neighbor

Well, therein is the issue.... I believe (but not around to confirm so I can't make waves) that my neighbor's cat is the offender. I'm on good terms the all my neighbors and want to keep it that way, otherwise the BB gun would be used....

 Don't get upset... I have a heart. I just aim real close and scare them. Helps if there is something nearby like a can that makes lots of noise when it gets hit.

:yay: if the scare tactic works... good! cats are no threat! But a 70-80lb Rottie coming at ya.... I will do what I have to do what ever to keep everyone safe! :buddies:

My mom used moth balls to keep the neighbors cat out of the garden, but after a google search- I'm now aware it's toxic!

I did find this though...Keeping Cats Out of the Garden | Care2 Healthy & Green Living (http://www.care2.com/greenliving/keeping-cats-out-of-the-garden.html)

Specifically this:

2. This mixture is easy to make and can be used anywhere you want to repel cats (or groundhogs, for that matter):

2 parts cayenne pepper
3 parts dry mustard
5 parts flour

Simply mix together and sprinkle.

Snatch them suckers up and take them to get snipped. There are low cost places that will run around $70 which is probably cheaper than what you'll spend over the entire spring/summer trying to repel them. I did it with a couple the winter before last and haven't seen hide nor hair of them since. :dye:

You could but you should probably do it to the neighbors so you can keep the kid population under control! :smoochy:
