I test rode one from the BRP dealer in Mechanicsville not too long ago. Lots of nice creature comfort options, peppy.

I didn't like riding it. I've been a two-wheeler for almost 50 years and expect a vehicle to react a certain way, like cornering. The CanAm corners flat, and since you're sitting up higher and not leaning with the bike, you get the feeling like you're going to fall off in the opposite direction of the turn. The steering is also VERY sensitive, so just looking over your shoulder is enough to point the bike in another direction.

I get the impression that the CanAm was intended for people who wouldn't or couldn't ride a two-wheeler in an effort to fill that void. Now anyone can ride without the fear of falling off. A new rider would do much better acclimating to the CanAm than a seasoned two-wheeler.

Your friend should go for a test drive and see for himself.

One of the guys in the Southern Cruisers Riding Club has a Spyder. He likes it and rode it all last winter, even with snow on the ground. I tried it around a parking lot and like GW said, it feels weird not to lean in a corner

It doesn't lean.. ..

Was reading in a bike mag last month that Polaris filed patents on a leaning front end.

... and the guy in the SCRC just got back from riding to California, 6500 miles round trip.

It would probably be like when we switched from my one dirt bike to a couple of three wheel ATVs, pretty different. For one thing you actually turn the bars in the direction you want to go.

And someone's beat Can-Am to it..

I could see the allure of the Can Am for someone who doesn't want a two wheeler. More open than a convertible. Not for me however. Yet anyway. Maybe if I lose a leg or something.

The problem I have with the Can-Am is you sit on top of it. If you sat down in it I think it would be more "different"... definately lower the center of gravity...

It would be fun to build one of the reverse trikes...

the Aprilia Magnet concept is sick!
