Good luck with that. Maybe Nick's? You could ask a butcher in one of the local grocery stores if they would cut you one. You never know till you ask.

When I could catch up with him; I asked the butcher at Food Lion In Callaway; but he told me that they grind it up into hamburger; which is what MOST places do with it.

Not that I wouldn't make the trip to Calvert; I was just thinking maybe I could find it at one of the Food Lion's or at Giant.

:yeahthat:

I saw them for around $3.50/lb or so today at ours. Never tried cooking these up yet on the grill (a real hot grill, for a couple of minutes max each of its three sides--for a good crust and red/pinkish center).

We may have bought this as chopped stew meat before.

This cut goes by different names sometimes (bottom sirloin is one I've seen before, though I haven't seen that label around here). I bet it's worth pushing the button at the meat section to ask someone.

I'll do that. Heck, it's on my way home.....kinda. But, isn't McKay's kinda "steep" even for "regular" things? Wouldn't a "special cut" like Tri-tip put me in hock up to my ears at McKay's?

Food Lion in California has sirloin tip roast on sale for $3.79 this week.

I stopped by McKay's this past Friday. The young gent behind the counter; don't know his name; cut me a tr-tip roast; approx 2 lbs. for about $10.00.
I don't remember what the label said. I walked in the door and laughed like Wil Smith on Fresh Prince. Dad said, 'Uh-oh, what's in the bag?'
'Hey.....tri-tip.' 'Where'd you find THAT?'

I marinated it overnight Saturday in a red Zin and seasoned and cooked it on a gas grill; cuz that's all we've got. It was okay but next time I'll cook it on hardwood. Just have to find a "cheap" charcoal grill.
