Long story compressed - adopted a cat from the shelter. Spent $$$ getting rid of a nasty hookworm infestation and upper respiratory infection. Cat is sweet enough, gets along with everyone, but she is crapping everywhere. Pee too. Sometimes uses the litter box, other times not. Tends to poop in the box, won't bury it,leaves a poop trail from it,and pees on the carpet next to it. Wife has had enough after finding the cat had left poop trail all over one of the kids room. Getting tired of crawling around scrubbing carpet as well. If we take her back to the shelter and say why she is a goner for sure. So what else to do? I've tried confining her to one room, getting multiple boxes, etc. We are looking for her to leave. I don't intend to advertise for a home for her because I fear she would end up crapping in someone else's house who might not be a patient as we are. A little info, she is 8 years old,UTD on shots, spayed. Gets along fine with other animals. Tried Rude Ranch, won't take her. And yes, we have taken time for her to adjust, learn the house and so forth.

I have had basicly the same cat, she would piss everywhere but the litter box, and poop places too. turned out being the litter. We are using scoop away now, and she is doing great staying in the box. and also does ur cat have fleas? cause i have had a cat in the past piss everywhere and when i got rid of the flees she stopped. cats are very weird. well good luck on everything. If you decide not to keep her I hope she goes to a good farm home.

I'll tell ya I feel like a jerk for agreeing with you but I think that may be about it for options. I have tried every rescue I can find and they are all full/not taking cats. For cats to say they won't use the litterbox is a death sentence. I don't even know that she could be an outside cat or have the heart to just put her out.

I have a cat that did the same thing. I made her an outside cat, and she lays around on the porch during the day, and for the winter I have a doghouse with a heating pad inside that she can stay warm in. It was that or the highway because you can't have cat sheet all over your house. She has done just fine. It's been about 2 years...

Well she IS spayed so she won't get pregnant and maybe it could be ok. I feel bad she is our responsibility but damn don't know what else to do.

No,not a deer. A cat.

I'd try the different litter tactic...if that doesn't work try the outside cat idea.
Good luck to you...sounds like you have tried hard and been very patient.

Thank you for the Feline clarification though.:coffee:

Let her back in. Leaving her out in the heat scared is just a d*ck move

I agree with trying different litter also BUT in the short term I would CRATE/cage her. Give her a litter box and she WILL use it or she will have no clean place to lay in there. You can use a plastic dishpan as a litter box (not too big for a crate IF she doesn't over-shoot the sides).

I kept a shelter cat confined to a cage for weeks after she messed all over. Then I opened the cage door and let her have 1 room to roam in, she used the litter just fine. Then I let her roam the house again and so far, so good. Now she uses the litter just fine.

There was another cat that only had poop issues if she ate something other than her regular dry kibble, She would get diarrhea and couldn't help herself and would poop on the floor sometimes. So she was caged anytime she had diarrhea.

Yes a bathroom would be ideal - I used to use my master bathroom at my old place for critters more then myself LOL

We've done these things. I stated in my post, we are not looking for suggestions to keep her. We are looking for referrals to rescue groups or the like. I don't know if anyone has actually read my initial post but all these "suggestions" have been tried, and were noted to prevent wasting time rehashing them.

You got a lot more patience than I do. I'm an avid pet lover, but ain't no way I'd deal with that. I'd have dropped that sucker off on the side of the road by now. :blushing:

... I didnt see in your post where you have tried different litter and a crate? (crate and room work two different ways :yay:)

I have two cats that when I would take them to work.. they would not use the litter they have there.. and would hold it for 12-16 hrs till they got home..... then go the sec. they hit their litter. And also would have nothing to do with two other types of litter I tried.. how do I know.. because they would pee and poo where they wanted till I crated them and tried different litters! :coffee:

Only that you are more interested in finding someone else to take her but maybe you feel bad?

Good luck finding a place for her to go. Sounds like she either has to be an outside cat or be put down.

I agree. But if you decide to give her the boot outside, don't do for the next couple of days during this heat wave. That way she at least has a chance to survive.

I know you're not looking for advice but I'm going to give you some anyway.... Make her an indoor/outdoor cat. One of my female cats is the biggest biatch and started peeing and crapping on my bathroom rug or in the dirty clothes. Nope, that does not go over well with me. I booted her butt outside. She did some crying at first but got over. Now she goes out when I'm not home and at night and it's been months with no messes to clean up. She has food and fresh water daily and I have a covered front porch, camper and boat which she can lay under for shade and shelter. I become a whole lot less of a sucker when I have to clean up after something and I don't feel bad about the decision at all.

I did not read the replys...but I would personally cage her for a month...only room a bed a litter box and food and water...(if behavioral not medical) then start her off in a small room with box and go to the house...sorry in a hurry if I replied in haste...

Ditto , cats have a very good sense of smell and are offended by strong smells. One of our cats refused to use the litter because it was scented, We changed to fragrence free and now do not have a problem.
