The young'n and I were sitting in the living room and thunder cracked quite loudly overhead (lightning flashed at the same time). While that was happening, we both saw a spark on the other side of the room and heard a snapping sound - almost like a rubber band snapping. It wasn't near an outlet and none of the nearby electrical doodads seem to have been affected. Did we just get struck by lightning?

Go outside (when it's safe) and look at the shingles. Keep an eye on everything.

Could be. I had one that took out a grounding wire just in the garage. Smoked that baby ! About 20 feet worth. We were lucky it didn't catch anything on fire.
Didn't even know until I tried to use the grinder and it didn't work.

:yeahthat:

You may want to check your fuse box and make sure nothing was tripped, if it was take extra caution to flipping it back on....after you flip it back on, check again for smoke just as a precaution

Thanks, guys. No smoky smells, the fuses were all okay and no wires/cables/cords appear to be fried. Dustin double checked when he got home. I can't see the shingles on the second floor - maybe when it's not raining tomorrow I'll walk down the street and see if I can get a peek.

Three-story house on the island had a chimney completely blown up/away by a lightening strike recently...the chimney apparently had the metal (stainless steel?) flue liner all the way from bottom to top and so it literally exploded in to loose bricks scattered all over the lawn..and left a crater at the bottom where it used to stand.

Wow..
