View Full Version : What are my chances of getting trees removed?

My husband is thinking he needs to cut down a tree we have that is leaning on the driveway. I think there isn't any hurry (no structures in danger), but he seems hell bent to take it down himself on Wednesday. I think it's a dangerous proposition by himself, and an unnecessary risk. So, I'm thinking I need to work on talking him out of it and/or get him some help. It's leaning against another tree. Maybe if I can just focus him on hauling the debris from the other 3 trees that came down and eventually getting to this. We can park in the road for now.
I left a message for Kerwin Tree service, but don't really expect a quick answer with all the other higher priority trees down. TIA.

Kerwin is great. He helped me out in a pinch last month. I'll be calling him again once my insurance adjuster comes out to assess the damage - again.

He's done tree work for us before, and did a great job. Really reasonable as well.

Tell him you're upping his life insurance before he proceeds with the job. Maybe that would get his attention. Unless the tree it's leaning on is also in danger of falling into the house or something, i'll leave it alone, for now.

I think I've convinced him to stick with hauling the debris from the other trees that went down for now. He grew up on a tree farm in Ohio, though, so he thinks he can do anything. He's lost a relative to a tree kicking back, so you'd think he'd exercise some caution.

Give him back his mancard

That's that I was thinking. Mr. J would have had that thing stacked by now.

:yeahthat: My hubby had to cut his way out of our driveway and down several roads in order to get to a relative in need. There was no stopping him.

Are you sure he wasn't trying to get to Cornhole before they cancelled?

Oh you know it... Cutting his way out was Sunday... on Saturday he did have to personally go check to see if the Cornhole tournement had been postponed... I wasn't sure if he was going to make it back home before the flooding and downed trees...

I threatened my husband with more life insurance when he wanted to buy a motorcycle. It worked. :starcat:

Easy tree. Let him go to it...or trade in his man card and chain saw.

So what is everybody doing with their left over root systems from there fallen down trees? The wood is no problem, just not sure what do with the monstrous balls of dirt and roots left over.

You can take them to any of the county debris collection points. After Isabel, I used a comealong and stood my stump back up and left it to rot since it was at the edge of the tree line and out of my way.

Comealong should work nicely. Thanks for the tip.

Part of the problem is time. We're only there weekends and he's traveling a lot in the next few months. We've got a guy coming who will do all 6 trees, including hauling, by the end of the weekend.

Mine as well leave it until after Katia comes and pay the man once instead of twice.

No, he generally doesn't. I had called him about 6 months ago, really nice professional guy, and he told me they were so busy in SMC that they didnt have time to service our area. Call Booth Specialized Tree Svcs. They service all of somd. State Farm recommended them and they were great.

Haha. Glad to hear that he changed his mind. Is this what changed his mind?
