Not surprising. There are fools walking dangerously close to the highway all the time in that area.

the area of Butler's Place
This area has a history of folks being hit. I belieive most of the cases when folks are hit it is at night. The person wears dark clothing, and in some cases the person may have walked in front of the car, perhaps intoxicated. In the past I have observed some people act like they have a sense of entitlement to walk right in front of traffic.
I remember one guy off of Route 5, about a half a mile south of Route 4 was standing on the southbound shoulder. This guy would pretend to "jump in to the travel portion of the roadway," just to make you swerve out of the way. He did that for multiple cars until the police showed up. Not sure what the case is here. Every case is different. One case I recall many years ago, a person was hit near Butlers by a young w/f. The person hit was an Africian American. I guess someone thought the young girl hit him on purpose. Who knows. Anyhow, a riot soon started. They tried to turn the girl's car over with the young girl in it. Police showed up. Then the police had to call for considerable assistance to break up the crowd. The person that was hit survived. The girl was okay as well. Just a bit shook up, mentally and physically.

I remember a few years back there were two or three people that were hit in that area. If I remember correctly, they were fighting, it spilled outside into the roadway. Driver never saw them. I think two died and one lived.
But yeah, that area has a notorious history for people getting hit by vehicles. It's in a bad area (right around a turn), it's not very well lit and people are always hanging around outside.

There was one, maybe ten or more years ago in front of Butlers, multiple victims, got crazy. Then the drunk guy on GMR maybe 6-8 years ago, and the one out on 234. Might have been one or two more at Butlers place, cant recall.
Was it Toots owner getting grilled by the liquor board because his fence in back wasn't containing his customers?

That doesn't seem like a very good idea.

this sounds VERY similar to the incident that occurred near the Clements intersection a few years back. The people had come out of the bar and out into the road fighting amongst themselves, and a girl came thru and bam, hit some of them, and they attacked her vehicle.

There was one back in 1995 in front of Butlers in which a young woman was killed. I don't remember the exact details but I worked for Ken Dixon at the time and I still remember the phone call from her mom where she and I discussed her returning the daughters car. The mom was unable to keep it and make the payments. Heart wrenching situation. Very sad to see that car pull in on the roll back. Even worse knowing that poor lady lost her daughter. Having lived at the back gate for years I remember many a night seeing a stream of cars parked on the side of 235 with people darting across the road with cars zooming by.

A few more thing to add about the one last night,
The person hit was reported to be "naked" one person did say he had a shirt on.
Police had to respond to SMH because the person hit by the car was demanding a black doctor, causeing a scene, and did not want to be flown out.
