For the first time, bicyclists will be able to join runners and walkers in the annual John R. Petruccelli 5K Run/Walk/Bike Ride starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. The run, in honor of John Petruccelli, a student bicyclist killed by a drunk driver, is open to all and consists of a 3.1-mile mostly paved course through scenic Historic St. Mary’s City. The fun walk is 1.5 miles on a paved path, and the 14.2 mile casual bike ride goes from St. Mary’s College to St. Inigoes Landing Park and back.
Race-day registration and packet pick-up for pre-registrants begins at 7:15 a.m. at the college’s Alumni House. The Chesapeake Bay Running Club is the official timekeeper. Pre-registrations are accepted until Sept. 27 at St. Mary's Alumni Relations: St. Mary's College of Maryland (http://www.smcm.edu/alum).
The event is free for children under 13,
$10 for St. Mary’s students and youth ages 12-18,
$20 for alumni, parents, faculty/staff, friends, and community,
$25 for all on race day.
Proceeds go to college scholarships and SafeRide, which gives students rides home at night.
