I don't know how new they are but I always hired a plumber because I was TERRIBLE at sweating copper pipes. I go to look at plumbing in the Solomon's house and they have some kind if compression fittings. No more sweating or solder and flux.
Not only are they done with NO tools, but they keep the pipes "twistable" and you can remove them and re-use them. The only drawback is cost. An old style copper tee is about a buck maybe 2, but these are (for 3/4 inch copper) about $10 each.
Lowes has "Gator's Bites" and are a lot more expensive than Home Depot's "Shark Bites", but a HUGE advantage for DIY'rs.

Are you sure about them being removable? I believe once you put them on and they bite there is no getting them off.

the brass ferrule gets compressed on the pipe, sometimes you can work it back off and reuse it

You're talking about something different. These actually come with a tool that compresses a ring at the joint that releases the bite, tube comes right out easy peasey.
There is absolutely no compression.

Lowes has been carrying those for a while, I noted that a few months ago. Didn't get a warm and fuzzy about them leaking.

Have had them in the other house for two years. Probably a dozen or more of them not even a whisper of a leak, and you choose any joint and the pipe spins freely on both ends.

I have them on my water filter and no leaks in 7 years. When we redid my bathroom downstairs my dad used some and they are solid, no leaks at all.

impressed with how well they work.and how easy they are to use. They work for copper, PVC, PEX, though as easy as solvent welding is I don't know why anyone would use them for PVC..
