Taylor's called and said our conversion kit was in and they were on the way. GREAT except I hadn't run the plumbing or finished the vent yet.

So while they were installing the kit I was doing the plumbing and thanks to Shark and Gator Bites I got at least the cold ran so we could test run it.

Now it's fully installed, vented and even has it's own outlet (that all the basement outlets will share someday)...

I feel pretty good about myself right now.

I do have to say if you FEAR plumbing, Shark Bites make it easy. Expensive, until you think of a plumber's hourly wage and how.long it takes to sweat pipe, it takes about two seconds for every joint and corner, can re-use so if you make a mistake take it apart and do it again, yeah life is good.

Yep, a bigun.

Taylor ran the gas, BG and I did the rest, even built the wall to mount it on.

Does it have a blower vent on it?

Yeppers, but it's 3" PVC, was easy to do too.

And an intake vent?

And an intake vent?

Nope, just an exhaust. Does have a condensation drain though.

Most tankless water heaters require a special stainless steel vent piping material. This material is known as "Category III" and is typically AL29-4C Stainless steel. This is required because the combustion efficiency of the heaters make it very likely that condensate will be formed within the venting system. This condensate, although there is not a lot of it, is highly acidic and will destroy standard vent material in a short time. Type "B" gas vent can not be used on most of these heaters for this reason. Another reason this vent is required is that the vent systems are under pressure from the fan within the heater. This is known as "Positive Pressure" venting and requires that the vent system be UL listed as positive pressure and sealed to prevent carbon monoxide from leaking out into the occupied space. Tankless water heaters as well as other products also have maximum lengths that you can run the venting. The number of elbows required in the system shortens these distances. Always consult your manufacturer instructions and never exceed these distances!

This one has a PVC adaptor for the exhaust vent, no stainless.

Just curious, all of the outlets will be shared? Have you calculated load? What do you plan to have running? 12 or 14 ga wire? GFCI?

He just strings it together with telephone cord and uses tie wraps.

hot water heater pulls a max 4 amps 120v, hooked up to 3 wire 10 gauge (what the electric water heater was using for 240 but the same wire converted to 120), with a 30 amp fuse at the end. More than enough to power the heater and bunches of outlets.

I don't think that is a good idea with a blower vent on the tankless water heater.

As much as I enjoy sweating plumbing joints together ( I like fire :killingme) I will have to look into these things.
