According to conventional wisdom, The right and Republicans are concerned with the problems of the wealthy and people who run businesses while the left, the Democrats, are concerned with the problems of the poor. Most people understand it's in both parties interest to grow their constituent base.

What I don't understand is why people support policies that increase the number of poor people instead of supporting policies that increase the number of wealthy people.
