View Full Version : Mice vs Cat

Thought I had a lazy cat, but never had mice.
So, two weeks after I had to put my kitty down last fall, the mice invaded the house.
Hubby said no new cat. And he's held firm on that point.
We've been chasing mice through the house for the past month. Without any prompting on my part, he has just stated that maybe we need a cat in the house.
So I'm jumping on this! Anyone have kittens? I have two large dogs, so I think a kitten is what I need as opposed to an older cat that may not like dogs.
It's got to be a male, that's my only stipulation.
TIA

So, the 9 month old German Shepherd has caught her nose in the mouse traps twice (she can't resist the peanut butter). Now the traps are hidden behind some boxes so she can't get to them.
And 3 more mice have been caught in the traps.
Anyone have kittens to give away?

I can go snoop the cat hoarders house (I actually think he just feeds all the strays) down the street this evening. I think I've scooped up and fixed most of them (at least the ones that come around my house). I have one of his kittens from last spring and she is a doll.

Go to a rescue and adopt a kitten or cat. There are so many that need homes!

We have 2 boy buddies that would be great at mice hunting. They kill EVERY stink bug that gets in LOL They have a low adoption fee also.

I'm looking for not JUST a working cat, I also want him (them!) lovable. Think you can find a couple young ones that are people friendly?

They've got to be indoor/outdoor cats (sorry, forgot to mention that stipulation). A litter box is a deal breaker at my house. :duel:

These2 boys were outdoor cats at the time they came to me. I wasn't surprised at how easily they took to a litter box, what surprised me is how non-destructive they are as indoor cats. I was able to train them to use the cardboard scratchy things pretty fast. They are very well-behaved inside.
I do NOT know if they would be comfortable with dogs right off the bat. I would expect that it could take a couple weeks for them to get used to the dogs? BUT once they are used to being INSIDE the house for a couple weeks, they should be okay to go outside and not run off. Cats need to KNOW where home is and be comfortable before letting them outside to roam. That way they will stay close to "home" and not run off being in "fear".
These 2 boys are a bit timid with new people, but once they know you they are very loving and will come to you for affection. They have been neutered, given Rabies and tested negative for FIV/FELV.

I got a call from a lady about two (2) "fluffy" long haired kittens. They are 9 weeks old. I will know more later. Sounded like they were both boys and she was hoping they could stay together. Personally, at that age, separating them isn't that big of a deal, but it's always nice for critters to have buddies.

Please keep me in mind - that would be great!

Yeah, I was wondering if you'd rather have younger ones :howdy:

I believe younger ones would mesh better with my dogs...
And they can learn to be mousers.

I just spoke to the lady and she is going to transfer the kittens to us Thursday. I just called Humane Society and they will do the neuters on Friday for us. These 2 boys should be ready for their new home by Saturday/Sunday.
Oh and the lady who has the kittens has taken them in to the vet and they have been de-wormed in a 2 part process. I will get a copy of their vet record to show the de-worming they've had.
The adoption fee for these 2 will be the cost of their vet bill at the Humane Society. I won't have pictures of these 2 little balls of fluff until Thursday afternoon. Let's just hope these two turn out to be negative for FIV/FELV.
