The chicken and dumpling thread has gone off in a direction that I think deserves a thread of its own:

Do you have a weird food quirk? I have a couple. I can't stand having anyone take a swig out of my drink. Doesn't matter if it's a glass, a bottle, a can - with a straw or without - I wind up throwing the rest out. BUT...I don't mind taking a drink out of someone else's drink.

Eggshells, very small (fish)bones, crabshells - anything like that in my food and I'm done. :barf:

Something, clearly, is wrong with you. Describe your beatings growing up. I'm on a quest.

Meat fat, like on the edge of a steak or gristel. If I chew it just once my meal is ruined cause I feel sick :barf:. The giant says what's odd about it is that I'll eat bacon and fatback. I think it's the texture though.

I have to take out that white thing that's attached to the egg yolk, about 40 years ago my sister told me it was rooster sperm and I've never gotten past it.

Larry Gude has this same phobia. You should see him dissect a steak - not just the fat/gristle at the edge, but any marbling throughout gets surgically removed.

Stop worrying about rooster sperm LOL

"In a fresh egg, we can see white cords attached to the yolk sac. These two cords, called chalazae, are made of twisted strands of mucin fibers that are a special form of protein. The chalazae hold the yolk in the center of the egg."

I can't deal with anything key-lime flavored. Had to drink a quart of key-lime flavored barium that nearly did me in, can't stomach even the smell anymore.

good explanation, and interesting comments!

I can not have any of my food touching. I also eat in order of worst to best.

Example: salad, baked potato, saving the steak for last. French fries before the burger etc...

Everyone has things they don't like, which isn't really a quirk..but carraway seeds disgust me. I abhor them. They are revolting little packages of a disgusting flavor I can not even begin to describe. I literally wish every caraway seed was stripped from the earth and burned, never to poison a food item ever again.

Grape Tang. I don't think they even make that stuff anymore, but when I was a kid I had to take penicillin for an ear infection and, because I couldn't choke down the huge pill, my mom used to grind it up and stir it in grape Tang. I can't even think about it without getting the smell of that medicine in my nose.

I go through weird stages of food, where I eat only that one food for a while, before I tire of it and move on to another food obsession.

Right now I am on a Triscuit kick. I eat a box of them every single day. Awhile back, I was on a popcorn kick.....I ate a bag of it every single day. Before that I had a black licorice kick.....then a beef jerky phase before than.

You get the idea.

That was actually a really good article. I know I hate Cherry flavored anything because I've always associated it with cold medicine and throwing up. :ohwell: But have no clue why I have such an aversion to meat fat.

I have to eat my food evenly -- a bite of this, a bite of something else, etc. Hubby eats one thing at a time on his plate and I don't like it.

Texture is a big thing for me. If it feels weird in my mouth I can't eat it.

No squeaky food! I love the taste and smell of coconut, but cannot eat it because it sqeaks. Same thing with frozen green beans.

And need it be said... oysters are nasty... :lmao:

Okay, I thought of something that may count as a quirk and not just a food preference:

Macaroni salad

The thought of pasta drenched in mayo absolutely grosses me out. I couldn't even tell you if it tastes good because I've never put the crap in my mouth. I like pasta salad that's made with vinaigrette. I like potato salad (only my own, though, and not with icky bits of onion and celery), and mayo in general, but noodles and mayo combined makes me nauseated.
