Old school here still use mapquest printouts and haven't gotten too lost yet....

What I really, really like about the GPS is if you have to deviate from some road for some reason, accident etc., it auto refigures a route. Of course you can do that with a map too.

Used that "alternate route" feature a few times when running into traffic jams, works good especially in an area your are not familiar with.
