the volume button on my Compaq Windows Vista that is usually in the bottom right hand corner, has vanished. How can I get it back? I use the volume button a lot.

Turn your monitor on its side and slap the back 3 times with moderate force.

Don't have a Vista machine around right now but in XP. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel. Click on sounds and audio devices, and verify there is a check in the box marked Place volume button in the taskbar. In W 7 Start, Control Panel, Taskbar and start menu, and customize what items to show in taskbar

I have had that happen both when I had vista and now (what is it I have...umm...windows 7?). Anyway, once I reboot it usually reappears. In the meantime you can adjust the volume by using the keys at the top of the keyboard, just above the 9 and 0.
