I'm not sure why you would require/desire a secure connection to somd.com. Perhaps you could elaborate or give an example of why you would see this as beneficial. And by somd.com, do you just mean the main somd.com site or all somd.com domains, like forums.somd.com?

As I'm sure you know, all data between the browser and the server is encrypted during an https/SSL session. This is typically only considered necessary when you are transmitting data like credit card and billing info.
