This forum now supports Android and the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad natively with Forum Runner!

What is Forum Runner?

Forum Runner is an Android/iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad App that allows you to browse this forum using a native client. This means faster access for those users since it only downloads the actual forum information rather than all the extraneous images that slow down the mobile connection.

Forum Runner Feature List

Browse your favorite forums in an easy-to-use-interface with multiple notification types (private message, subscription, etc)
Fully customizable home screen with your favorite forums
PUSH NOTIFICATION SUPPORT : Get private message and subscribed thread updates from your favorite forums in the background!
Poll updates (private messages/subscriptions) from favorites on home screen - shows you a summary of which forums you have new messages or subscriptions on!
Image attachment thumbnail and full size viewing from threads
View a thread's image attachments in one convenient screen (much like the native iPhone "Photo" app)
Save thread images to your iPhone/iPod touch library
Fully search-able forums!
View embedded links without leaving the app, including YouTube videos
Supports portrait AND landscape mode
Full posting options (quote posts, start new thread, etc)
Attach unlimited photos from your library (or take a photo from the camera and attach it)

It seems to work okay on iPad, but I'm not seeing a way to quote posts or an equivalent of the 'New Posts' search function.

Okay, I figured out how to quote posts.

It's always worked fine on my iPad, but has been a little slow on my Fire. After having used Forum Runner for a little bit, I suspect I'll go back to using a browser on the iPad and just use FR on the Fire (and maybe the iPhone).

And yeah, how dare they? 2 bucks? iOS and Android apps are supposed to all be free, dammit!

The free version only allows you to read the forums. The paid app will let you login and post. It also has the push capability so your phone will alert you when appropriate for PMs and subscribed forums/threads. I think the paid version also has more preferences for how you interact with the forum.

We primarily wanted to offer this tool for those readers who are sitting on a commuter bus or waiting in the doctor's office to be seen. Why converse with the human being next to you when you can surf the somd.com forums on your smartphone

You may also want to consider using TapaTalk to access the forums. It is very similar to Forum Runner. Based on my research, each has its own following.

You can find the downloads here: Tapatalk Forum App - Empowering Forum Junkies on-the-go (http://tapatalk.com/mobile.php)

There are versions for: iPhone, iPad (more than the iPhone app), Android, Blackberry, and a plug-in for the Chrome browser. There is no free version of this app ($3); However, the Chrome plugin is free -- it is just an app that alerts you to PMs and forum/thread subscription notifications.

Ok, I am now convinced that I'm going to have to shell out the two bucks. Doing this via safari browser is a HUGE PIA!!!

Why do I need these apps? I just open the browser, log in, read and post from my droid.

Depends what and how you like to navigate...

Feature on ForumRunner that I like is the "participated" button.. Takes you to all threads you have posted in.

Downloaded the free version and the font is too small. Does the $1.99 version allow you to increase the font size?

Does the $1.99 version allow you to increase the font size?I checked on the iPhone App, and you can increase the font size (5 options) for reading forums in the "Forum Reading Options."

In the Kindle Fire Android version, I see 3 font size options under "Display Options."

As for those who ask, "Why would I want to use Forum Runner or TapaTalk?"

That is entirely up to you what you use. This is just one more option for someone to participate in the forums. I use both Forum Runner and a web browser, depending upon where I am and what I am doing. Frankly, we would prefer it if everyone used a web browser.

We don't earn a penny off of the sale of either TapaTalk or Forum Runner. For the amount of work the developers have put into it, $2 is a bargain, especially when you compare it to the price of something like Windows, or MS Office or Quicken.

Thanks for the info. Yea, all of the apps I've purchased so far have been worth the ~$2. In fact, some have been down-right impressive.
