Colors....You're gonna hear it at 0800 everyday until you move. And you probably hear a bugle call at sunset every day as well.

I guess it could be. Sound does carry well over water. Three miles away though?

If the wind is right you can hear it from the Base, but something must have changed because I've lived in Drum Point over 20 years and just recently started hearing it.

I used to not be able too unless the wind was in the right direction.
However I can now, loud and clear

The year before last they installed this system, Military Giant Voice Solutions | American Signal (http://www.americansignal.com/applications/military-giant-voice-solutions) Better "speakers" and new speaker locations are probably why it's clearer.

I'm staring directly at NESEA across about 2.5 miles of open water and when their speakers kick off the anthem at 0800 every morning, it sounds like they are playing it right next door.
One set of speakers is next to the new ATC tower.

Along those lines, base movie theaters have always played a National Anthem video prior to the starting of the feature film. Everyone stood, hand over heart, and either sang along, or stood respectfully. At one point, the military decided to stop playing the video, and people were outraged. They wrote the Navy/Marine Corps Times, called the Command Master Chief, etc. The practice was resumed shortly after it was stopped.
kinda cool...

It's not colors.. there are two pieces to "Colors", Call to Colors, a short fanfare, and followed shortly by Colors..
It's been awhile but I'm sure it's the National Anthem.. and the flag is already up by 0800...

Last time I was driving in at 8 it was. That is when they raise the flag. That was quite a while ago though. Stood out in my mind because a car had stopped and a base cop pulled up behind him with lights on thinking something was wrong. He got out and looked a bit abashed as he realized what what going on.

Aboard Naval Installations, Morning & Evening Colors is conducted 0800 & sunset respectively with the bugle call "To attention" followed by the playing of the National Anthem. After the last note, the bugle call "Carry On" is played.
If there is no band or suitable recording of the National Anthem available, then the bugle calls "To The Colors" is played in the morning, and "Retreat" in the evening.

Technically yes, if you can hear it, unlike the 0800 morning colors on a military base, the retiring of colors is at sunset which changes almost daily!

Like another person posted if you can hear it you automatically stop face the direction it is coming from, removing hat or cover, hand over heart or at attention until it is completely over. Also, if you are driving and your windows are down you are to pull over and stop until it is over. Same with the evening colors. Hope that helps.

Retreat is at 1700 followed by To The Color and when the flag is lowered..
Reveille is at 0600 and when the the flag is raised.
Tatoo is a call like "lights out" no more loud noise music or conversation followed by taps...

Actually the times for Reveille and Retreat are up to the Unit/Company/Base/Post/Station commander depeding on their designated start of the work day, and end of work day. As I'm sure you kow, this can vary amonst bases/posts/air stations. No set time, it just trationally marks the beginning of the work day and the end of the work day, as commanded locally.

Yes, Reveille at Pax and the Annex is at 0800 sharp. If you live in the Solomons/Lusby area, that is what you here from the Annex. If you look as you come over the bridge, there is a huge flag pole at the Annex, i.e. colors and Reveille. Don't know if they do evening colors.

I guess I should have been more accurate..
On bases with MEN at work, reveille is at 0600..
etc etc..
AF and Navy bases.. It probably could be as late as 0800 or 0900..
