I was dropping off dog food at Tri County Animal Shelter last night and came across a poor shivering dog someone left. I couldn't leave him there, I called a friend, an amazing animal friend/savior, to help this poor pooch. I stayed with the dog shivering myself, until Dog Watch Guy could get there. I have 2 dogs and a 7 month old baby otherwise this dog would be with me, no question. Dog Watch Guy can't keep the dog b/c he's well..the Dog Watch Guy and works a ton, but has kept the pup warm and happy and fed for 12+ hours now. The thought of sending this poor guy back to Tri County is not acceptable. He's such a sweet guy. He needs a furrever home. He's SUCH a lovable guy, I sat with him outside for about 2 hours last night, please let me know who can help !!

Do you know anything about him? Is he fixed, good with other dogs, etc? I might be able to foster him but my granddog lives with us (cocker spaniel) so its important he gets along with other dogs. Bless you for trying to find him a furever home. :howdy:

Well, I have Dog Watch Guy (from Dogwatch Southern MD) who has him in his truck right now going to a training session and he said he'll ask if the owners of the dog where he is headed minds if they will see if "Lucky" (as I'm calling him) is good with other dogs. It was so dark last night, but both Dog Watch guy and me think that he is fixed. But he'll make sure and said he'll call me with the results with in the hour !! He's such a sweet boy, I can't imagine he'd be aggressive,.. please let me know b/c I can show you more pics on my Facebook page !!1

He does seem to be housebroken and he must travel well, when I was helping Dog Watch Guy with him he hopped right up in his vehicle and layed down !! I'm still waiting to hear on how he was with other dogs...

So, as it turns out, little guy is NOT neutered, which is an easy fix. He took him to a training session with dogs half his size who growled at him and he rolled over on his belly in submission.... he is such a sweet dog, I'm not surprised... Glen said he has been traveling with him all day and has 110 miles under his belt and travels very well !! He has offered to meet anyone for a face to face with the little guy, my cell is 301-542-6610 !! also, my phone doesn't always ring please leave a message !!!

He is so cute, luv that little face. How big is he? I'm sorry, I dont remember if you said he was neutered or not. My granddog is a bully but all bark and no bite, just wondering how they would get along. Also, I have two grandchildren who visit from time to time, 8 and 12, is he good with kids?

I'm guessing about 35lbs. Introduced to to another male dog yesterday. It went well. The other dog was smaller than him and when the dogs were startled by tangled leashes the smaller dog growled. This one became submissive and rolled over on his back. Everything I've seen so far has shown this pooch to be very gentle in nature, including taking a treat from your hand. As for kids, he's about to meet my twin step grandson's (7yrs old) this afternoon. If he passes this test with these two boys that will mean he can handle anything. These boys are wound-for-sound to say the least. No, he has not been nuetered yet but that's easily remedied. Trying to make appointment at Calvert Well Pet Clinic for Wed. for a check-up etc.

YES! Definitely housebroken - Does he travel well? See pics in previous post. He is a little nervous about getting in & out of my truck but he's already getting used to the idea. Once we're underway he loves watch the world go bye through the window.

Okay, let me know how he does with your "Double Trouble" LOL. If he is okay with them, I'm sure he will be fine around my Granddaughters. Drop me a PM on Wednesday and let me know how the check up went. We may be very interested in adopting him. At least we could give it a try to see how he is with my granddog.

Considering my grandson Aric still has all of his fingers, I tend to agree. I do know that if he put his hands that close to my mouth while I was munching on something like Ledos pizza, I would have taken a couple off. Nobody gets between me and my Ledos! :tantrum

Update: Spoke with Jean (PAWS) this morning. Our little friend has an appointment for 5:30 this evening for a check-up and the obligatory shots etc. Thanks Jean. She said I could bring him in Friday morning to have him neutered (sorry buddy). Meanwhile here's a link to another video of him interacting with kids and an unexpected cat encounter with him. Like everything else so far, he handle it well.

Yeah, the cat's name is Truck. He was a stray that adopted the boys a couple years ago as a kitten. He somehow survived the twin terrors. No wonder he didn't flinch at the site of the dog.

I hope this works out. This poor dog is so nervous about walking down the docks to get on or off our boat. He was OK with it at first but after a near mishap getting him off the boat the other day, he no longer enjoys the prospect. I usually just end up carrying him the whole way so he doesn't have to shake & shiver.

Just got back. All is well.

Tested negative for heartworms, lime disease along with a few other things I couldn't pronounce, much less spell. He also received his vaccinations. He is about a year old, 50 lbs. Did well at the clinic with other animals about and being poked and prodded by the very nice vets. He goes in for neutering Friday morning. So I'd say this guy is ready for a good home anytime now!

Beagle, lab maybe. In the video, I thought even Rhodesian Ridgeback. Def a mix- often the best kind.

I am very sorry for the loss of your Dog. I know this may sound weird to some, if not, MOST people, but 6 days after my 10 year-old Boston/Pug died, I got another Dog. At first I thought I had made a huge mistake getting another so soon, but within days of having the new Pup, I was totally in love with her. She ended up being the BEST Medicine for me.

I thought he got Neutered yesterday, and wanted to know how he is. Who is the Lucky One that is giving him this Trial Run? That makes me very happy. You could tell by the look on his face, that he is a real Keeper. That would make a good name for him, wouldn't it? Keeper

Well, after a trying day, it seems the "Boys" might get along. Sweetface or as my husband calls him, Cody, is laying on his bed and my granddog, King,is laying on his bed. We had a few incidents today, none started by Cody, but it seems they may adapt to one another. Cody is sweet, loving and full of kisses, he seems eager to want to please and can melt you with those eyes. He is going to stay tonite and we'll see how that goes. Hopefully it will go good and if so, he can stay here forever. I'll keep everyone updated. If not, please consider giving this wonderful dog a home. he is housebroke, listens fairly well, may need a little work on being over friendly but still just a lover. I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes tonite.:howdy:

You would never know he was neutered on Friday.LOL, Trying to keep him calm is the hardest thing to do. He wants to play and jump. I have had to put the "Halo Collar" on him a few times to keep him from licking. He is also a bed hog, lol. Wants all the covers and I'm up at 6 AM on a Sunday morning if that tells you anything. I dont think I will be able to keep him though. As I said, he wants to get along with King, but King wants no part of it. He always got along with my girl when she was alive, not sure if it was because she was a female and older so more laid back then Cody. But I have to think of him. I dont think Cody would hurt him on purpose but there is only so many times he will allow King to snap and growl at him without reacting and he outweighs King by 25lbs. I think if they had the opportunity to meet in a neutral place it might have been a little easier. He will make someone a great pet if you have the time to work with him.

LMD, thanks for bringing him into your home and letting us know how things went. King is just doing what comes naturally, protecting his territory.

Not to worry, I've got more people anxious to meet him. BTW, the grandsons celebrated when they found out he'll be back with us for a bit. I'll see you a little bit later this morning to pick him up. Thanks to everyone else for your concern about this wonderful guy. We'll get him adopted out eventually.

Roman

Sorry that it didn't work out LMD. But maybe lavish on King, and then give Cody the seconds for awhile. It's just two boys that are trying to establish territory, but I do understand your concern with 2 Males. Especially full-grown ones. It's great that you tried, and I want you to know that. If in the future you want another dog, I've found that opposite sex works better. :huggy:

Not to worry, I've got more people anxious to meet him. BTW, the grandsons celebrated when they found out he'll be back with us for a bit. I'll see you a little bit later this morning to pick him up. Thanks to everyone else for your concern about this wonderful guy. We'll get him adopted out eventually.

Barnacle..I think YOU really want to keep him!! Those Grandchildren just love the big guy! Maybe you could help them here & there with stuff that he needs! I do that with my Granddog! I take him to the Groomer for Nails, and Butt Glands, and then I buy him good food. My Daughter can afford her dog, but I pick up the extras. What you have done for him already, is commendable. You're the BEST!!

I hope he's finding a wonderful home, I hope Barnacle Bill does realize he's the reason this dog is going to find that home !! You know the only thing I did was make a call to the right person... what's funny is that when I left my house that night to drop off the food, which was in the back of my SUV for a week or so, I joked to my husband I'd be right back, we only live about 5 minutes away...but I joked that I'd be right back...unless I saw a dog in the "drop off". I honestly hope this dog finds a wonderful loving home that he deserves. I wish that could be with me, but... he's obviously found the right person to help. Thank you again, I will help in any way I can and you are not alone in your quest for his happy home !!

Any news on a forever home for the sweetboy? He was so good when I had him last weekend. If anyone is looking for a sweet, lovable dog with eyes that will just melt you, he is the one. I wish we could've kept him.:bawl:

Sorry folks been busy. Took him for another visit last night. Guess what, he finally met a dog that treated him nicely from the minute they met. He was in heaven. The people just loved him too. Fly in the ointment: husband has a really, I mean really bad back problem and fears that he will be run into while dogs are playing about the house. They might try an all day/over night visit this weekend.

Also, I received an email from a nice person at PAX NAS this morning asking questions about him. We've emailed back and forth a couple times.

Meanwhile, I am loving this guy more and more every day. I've been working with him on basic commands and making good progress. It is going to break my heart to see him go, but it's got to be about what's best for him. Someone around here is going to get a very special dog.

If you get your boy placed, would you mind helping us find Boxy a good foster or permanent home? I feel bad that he doesn't have a permanent family to cling to, you know?

I've had Boxy now for 2 1/2 months, and whoever gets him will also be getting a great dog.

Hi Ark, I had this sweet boy last weekend for an overnite trial stay. My husband and I fell in love with him right away, however, my granddog didnt feel the same way. Broke my heart to have to give him back. We may try another trial but this time with a female. My granddog is a male and seems to get along better with the opposite sex lol

Does this mean that you might give Boxy a try? Sorry Ark, for jumping in, but that would be so nice if you could. OOPS..I forgot that Boxy is a Male.

I would love to give Boxy a try, but yikes,....he's a male. King has already expressed his opinion, very loudly, on having another male in the house, (besides PopPop) that is. LOL. I did meet Boxy briefly, he seemed very sweet.

Yup he's a HE. I think the hard part comes with boys getting along with boys more than boys with girls or girls with girls. Although I recall when we introduced the new male rescue Rottie to our resident dominant Rottie female, and we did the introductions slow, and thought we did well, until we put them in the yard together and he wanted to be in charge, so she promptly kicked his butt. The fight sounded awful, but when it was over they were just wet from saliva and no one was bleeding thankfully.

Well, if I could be of help, I would try. But keep in mind that, as of this moment, I have succesfully placed zero dogs.

I have gotten a lot of questions & positive feedback on this sweetie by posting pictures and perhaps of more value, the videos. I got the idea after receiving several questions asking how he was with children, other pets, etc. By specifically recording these situations, I'm hoping to give potential adoptors a feel for the dogs energy level, temperment, and how he might react in a stressful situation (i.e. his chance meeting with Truck the cat.)

Well we have pretty much determined that based on Boxy's energy level, he would do best with active adults. He appears to be well trained in obedience (and he's so darned smart) that I believe he would do very well in agility competitions. He looks at me with a puzzled face sometimes as if he's trying to understand what I am saying. He has an exceptionally loveable personality.

Otherwise, he could be a frisbee dog or jogging/walking partner? He would be a great dog for someone looking for an active dog. He can be strong and tries to dart after other critters/people sometimes when walking on the leash. I have handled large dogs all my life, so I know to keep a good grip on the leash. He will respond to verbal commands to stop his forward motion (instead of playing tug of war with the leash). In time I am sure some of his impulse reactions would subside. He is young, and a boxer breeder who saw him last week said he may even get bigger in size (about 60 lbs now) and that he's likely around 12-18 months old right now.

Just wanted to let everyone following this story know that Lucky has found a home. We have a 10.5 year old female lab and three kids. Lucky gets along with everyone. We were a little nervous since our dog has never been around other dogs but after she let him know who was boss, it has been great. It works since he's submissive. He is very gentle with the kids too. He still has some pup in him so is naturally playful and energetic - just what our lab needed. She has played more in last two days than she has in a LONG time. Anyway, like I said just dropping a quick note to let you know that we are the 'lucky' ones for meeting this little guy. He is the sweetest, most lovable dog and yes those eyes will melt your heart. We especially got some laughs last night when he was at back door growling and barking - our lab is not a barker so we were wondering what he was seeing - only to realize he was growling at his own reflection :) Thanks to those who invested themselves in giving this loving guy a second chance!

Oh Wonderful!!!! I know about him growling at his own reflection, he did that when he had him over the weekend. So funny. Sounds like he found paradise with kids and other "friendly" dogs to play with. Thanks for letting him into your hearts and home. He is definitely a "Lucky" boy.:yahoo:

Good for you! :yahoo: I noticed with our old hound dog when he was alive that whenever we brought a new fur baby into the house it gave him another purpose. He had to play and show them the ropes and rules of the house. I bet your lab loves the company! Enjoy!

Sorry this took so long but...

Yes, it is with great joy (and sadness) that we are celebrating the fact that the lovable pooch we've been following in this thread has found his permanent home. He is with a very nice family in Leonardtown. He has every thing he could possibly want, kids to play with, a big yard and an older mentor to teach him the ropes of being a great family dog. The mood around home has been rather melancholy since he left, but we are so happy he landed where he did.
For our last day with him we went to the beach. I believe it was his first time experiencing the sand & water. HE WAS IN HEAVEN!. He ran and played and jumped and dug until he was so pooped he just plopped down in the sand and crashed out. To see some great pics of our last day at the beach, click the link below to view my slideshow.

Love the Pics Bill. I'm so happy you were able to place him in such a great home. He looks so happy on the beach, I thought he would be a water lover. I think he has some Yellow Lab and possibly boxer in him. You and KDenise did a great job for this handsome boy. :yahoo::flowers:

He might eventually become a water lover but he was really aprehensive. He kept waiting for his ball to wash back to the shoreline before he would tip toe into the the water to retrieve it. When he first stepped onto the stand he froze for a minute, looked up at me and then started pawing at it. He seemed amazed at the texture of it. It was a wonderful thing to see. What was really funny was when waves from passing boats would come in, he would run about 50 feet away and bark at the waves until they subsided. All in all I would say he had a blast. Both he and the boys were asleep in the car within 3 minutes after leaving.

Thanks for checking in on him. It was a pleasure to meet you and your hubby (and King of course).
