I have a drs appointment for #1 tomorrow morning. He's had a really stuffy/running nose and sore throat for a week. Strep usually doesn't have the sinus issues and does have a fever which he hasn't had at all, so I haven't been concerned that it's strep. I feel like a week with no improvement at all is a little much so I made an appointment for him. I looked down his throat and it looks normal (I guess, no spots or anything) but his glands that I feel from the outside are big. Anyone of you other parents dealing with/ recently dealt with anything similar? A friend has damn near convinced me they'll be ripping his tonsils out this weekend. :jameo:

nah. my tonsils used to absolutely overreact to every sickness I had...it made everything more uncomfortable to. Also, could be Mono, that sounds pretty classic. Some don't get the knock down tiredness that others get.

Hey Pixie, how old is he (#1)?
Mono is the "kissing" sickness, right? If it is Mono, then find out which girl(s) are also sick and you'll know who he's been makin out with at school? :lmao:

Between kindergarten and after school "daycare", my 5 yr. old Nephew "brings crap home" all the time. He is complaining of a sore throat.
Also, he cannot keeps his hands away from his mouth.
Lately, he is constantly unconsciously (sp?) wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. His mouth/lips is/are beet red.
With regard to the sore throat; my Brother and S-I-L are debating wether or not to get his tonsils out.

I sure hope my 7 year old avoids whatever is going around. He's already missed 10 days due to a ruptured appendix and another day for a Dr's appointment for an ear ache. Normally he doesn't miss any.

 Does he or doesn't he have a fever?

FYI, my oldest kids never ran a fever when they had strep, until after their first dose of antibiotics. They always complained of a severe headache and their tummy hurting.

I'd have him checked just in case. Sounds like the lymphnodes are being affected by whatever is making him sick. If I had to guess via internet, I'd say beginning stages of a sinus infection or URT infection.

Hope he feels better soon.

He's fine. He missed out on Halloween though because he was in the hospital. But between family and hospital staff, he probably got more candy than he would have if he went trick or treating.

This is his second major surgery. He was born with a hernia that wasn't diagnosed until he was 10 days old and turned blue while we were out for dinner. Had surgery at 12 days old and it was determined that his intestines weren't rotated, his spleen was on the wrong side and his appendix was higher up than normal. The ruptured appendix took care of that problem but when he had that surgery, they found that his intestines had rotated to the normal position and his spleen had migrated to where it belongs. This kid freaks me out !!!!!!! :cds::cds:

My son's appendix ruptured at the young age of 4. 18 staples later (and one week hospitalized), he's as good as new. Hope your son fares as well. I know firsthand how scary it is.

How long ago was this? My son's was done with 3 small incisions. He spent a week in the hospital and another week at home per doctor's orders. He was back to his old self right after the surgery, just walked slower and hunched over. By the time he came home, we had to practically sit on him to make him stop horsing around so much.

No fever. Runny nose, sore throat, swollen glands. Have an apt in the morning. Other than spring and fall allergy season he never has a snotty nose this long and never accompanied with a sore throat.

Boy had it over the Christmas holiday. Had a fever for maybe a day but after that it's just a hacking cough for a couple of weeks.
Boy gave it to me and I got the hacking cough for a couple of weeks. My doctor told me it's an upper respiratory virus that's going around and all you can do with a virus is outlast it.
Delsym, Robitussin, Mucinex, etc. Whatever helps to stop the cough

If that's the case he'll just have to suffer with hot tea and cough drops. He's like his mother and cough syrup makes him barf.

About 4 years ago. Brought him to the ER around 4am, by the time they gave him an MRI, shift change, contemplated flying him out and God knows what else, it had ruptured and sepsis had set in. Dr. Roach pushed all his surgeries back that morning and took him in ASAP. Had to basically clean out his body of the infection where it ruptured. He was in and out of it for days. By the 5th day when he was playing with the buttons on the bed, sandwiching himself, I knew he was out of the woods. Dr. Roach saved his life. And gave the staff a good tongue lashing too.

None of those thick cough meds taste good. I typically don't have a problem taking them but one time I got a little barf work its way up after I had some really hard coughs. Never pleasant. Is that what happens to you or do you get a gag reflex?

I shouldn't have taught him that it's polite to share. I feel like crap.

It makes me gag and if I force it down I puke it right back up. Cherry pie filling does the same thing to me. Something about the flavoring in both kicks in the gag reflex yet I LOVE oyster shooters. It's not a texture or consistancy thing, it's a flavor thing.

It's good to know what will make you gag and what doesn't.

I really don't think there are any "good" tasting medicine flavors out there. To this day, I still despise Pepto Bismal. It seems like that taste stays in your mouth forever.

for the cough take Vick's vapor rub and put it on the bottoms of the feet and put on socks. Sounds crazy, but it WORKS in about 5-10 minutes its GONE!. I had the same thing over the holidays - the cough at night was the worse

Homemade cough syrup using empty/clean cough syrup bottle:

about 2/3 full of honey and top it off with Crown. Shake well. Take two or three teaspoons two or three times a day.

I've been infected. :cds::cds::cds: My throat is on fire, no fever, no head congestion but my glands in my neck are so swollen that they're visible from the outside.

Had to leave work early Friday to pick up #2 from school because the nurse called. Doctor visit, same crap as #1 without the all out sinus infection.

They are both 90% better and now I'm down and out.
